Piolo's moment of truth

SHOWBIZ DRIBBLE - Salve V. Asis -

Piolo Pascual faces a gauntlet of questions from Boy Abunda this afternoon in The Buzz. Exactly a week ago Boy extracted a grudging admission from KC Concepcion that she and Piolo had broken up. While KC provided details about how the relationship came to be and how she tried to save it, she left out the reason why they parted ways, saying she didn’t want “to hurt anybody.”

That opened a Pandora’s box of speculations that kept the grapevine humming throughout the week. Columns, blogs and tweets went into overdrive dredging up possible causes. Several names were dragged into the fray.

There was mention of Maricar Reyes being the “third party.” More intriguingly, the name of Mark Bautista cropped up.

It will be up to Boy to flush out the answers from Piolo, who has so far brushed aside questions from reporters.

The blockbuster question, of course, is, is Piolo gay? A fellow writer of mine believes that KC had been “dropping broad hints” about Piolo’s gender preference during the Abunda interview. “I thought she was telling the audience, ‘there, I’ve provided the clues. It’s up to you to figure it out,’” my friend said.

Let us, for a moment, adopt the premise that Piolo is gay. What are the implications? It will definitely have a deep impact on the career of an actor who has been marketed as a fine example of the macho male. It will force his home network, ABS-CBN, to wrestle with a dilemma. His job as a celebrity endorser could also suffer.

When Boy Abunda asks the question, “Are you gay,” how will Piolo answer? Tune in this afternoon, folks.

Vic Sotto appears to have a penchant for courting his female co-hosts. After a long relationship with Pia Guanio, Vic has set his sights on Pauleen Luna, one of the mainstays of Eat Bulaga.

But Vic is also getting wiser in the ways of love. According to Lolit Solis, Vic has told Pauleen right at bat not to expect any marriage proposal from him. His decision to stay single is said to have been the reason Pia broke up with him.

Love them then leave them. Could that be Vic’s guiding principle?

Sarah Geronimo has once more proven her worth as a box-office megadraw. Won’t Last a Day Without You, her second movie with Gerald Anderson, raked in P20 million on its first day last week, according to Star Cinema.

Won’t Last a Day Without You casts Sarah as a radio jockey dishing out advice to lovelorn female listeners. One of them, Gerald’s GF, seeks solace from Sarah after catching him hitting on another girl. The GF follows Sarah’s advice and ditches Gerald.

Furious, Gerald storms into the Sarah’s studio and threatens to file a complaint against her. Sarah tries to wiggle out of the bind by volunteering to help Gerald patch things up with his girl.

Things get interesting when something more than friendship develops between Sarah and Gerald.

In all her movies, Sarah brings something youthful and bubbly to her roles. Won’t Last a Day Without You is no exception. Gerald fits his role as a guy torn between two girls to a T.

Joey de Leon lights up his role as Sarah’s aging rockista father. So does John Lapus as Sarah’s partner jockey.
