8 Pinoy films to be screened in 16th Busan Int'l Filmfest

CEBU, Philippines - Eight films from the Philippines will be screened in the festival this year. Lawrence Fajardo’s Amok, Adolfo Alix Jr.’s Fable of the Fish, Laurice Guillen’s Mask, Rommel Tolentino’s Nono and Marlon Rivera’s The Woman in the Septic Tank will screen in A Window on Asian Cinema. Fernando Poe Jr.’s films will feature in the Special Focus on Asian Western: Man of the East. Loy Acrenas’ Nino will screen in the New Currents section.

Eileen Sun Hee Kim, in charge of International Public Relations, in a statement sent to The FREEMAN said, "The Philippines has been an old friend of the Busan International Film Festival since the beginning in 1996. Many Filipino films were screened at the Busan International Film Festival and attracted and captivated many Korean cinephiles and world film lovers. For 15 years, numerous Filipino film figures attended the festival, won countless awards and participated as jury members. The prominent status of Filipino cinema is apparent in the Busan International Film Festival."

Founded in 1996, the festival has grown over the years, surpassing records every year and has established its name value as the largest and finest film festival. From October 6 to 14, 2011, the Busan International Film Festival will have its 16th edition and will feature 307 films from 70 different countries. Moreover, our main venue, Busan Cinema Center will open this year.

The Busan International Film Festival encompasses various matters from screening, interactions among cinephiles, cineastes and audiences, aiding advancement of film industries, as well as exhibition of talented filmmakers.
