Flash/Sound: Analog Art Meets Rock & Roll

CEBU, Philippines - Music and photography took center stage in the Flash/Sound event held last July 14, 2011 at The Outpost. The first event of its kind, this photo and music collaboration featured the lomography works of Analog Cebu and a serving of rock and roll from Manila band, The Royal and local UBEC talents Foc Fashion, SundaySunday and Happy Days.

Their first gig outside of Manila, members of The Royal were more than excited to perform for the Cebuano crowd. Frontman and former MTV VJ Sib Sibulo describes their music as party rock, something that the audience can dance to. After a pumped up set, the guys were elated with the positive feedback. “More than anything, all we want to do is put on a good show and give something that the crowd can really enjoy. It’s great to see people we don’t know, appreciate our music.” The band is looking forward to enter the studio for their first album as well as return to Cebu in the near future.

Apart from the great lineup of bands, Analog Cebu, as a surprise treat for everyone who came down, unveiled their Lomo Wall where, floor and ceiling aside, no space was left uncovered by the group’s collection of uniquely creative photos. Fisheye, Action Sampler, Diana, Holga, you name it, that wall has got it. For this group of lomography enthusiasts, film is definitely not dead. Through the collective efforts of Analog Cebu, the art has gained a following in Cebu with more and more people switching to film.

According to Kate Uy, one of the event organizers, “Lomography is all about the element of surprise and the thrill of not knowing what the outcome is. Everyone is encouraged to savor the moment, just have fun and of course, shoot from the hip!” Why Flash/Sound? “Music and Photography,” says Derek Go “let’s face it, they just...click.” Couldn’t have said it better.
