International House vocals moony to perform in Cebu

- Kristine Roa -

CEBU, Philippines - Monica Bragato or Moony was born in Venice Italy and got her first approach with music when she was very little. At 3 years old, she used to dance and sing with her father who was also a well esteemed swing drummer.

Strongly influenced by soul, funky and disco music in the early 70’s by her radio dj brother, Moony also lived the amazing 80’s with great bands such as Toto, Genesis and the first great european boy bands’ Duran Duran, Spandau Ballet and Wham.

Her great passion for music, singing and recording demo tapes convinced an older friend of hers to make her audition in a piano bar not far from where she lived. The following night she sang for the first time in public and was to say years later that “it was the best thing that ever happened in her life.”

Monica had been singing for a long time in the best clubs on the Italian scene using the nickname Moony, given by her family and friends. She attracted the attention of DJ/producer Agelino and Cristiano Spiller who asked her to add vocals and write some of their dance hits.

This venture bore “Positive”, her first single published, and “Batucada”. After this she was involved in a project called Angelmoon which led her to reach the Billbord chart in the US.

But it was with Point Of View, under the guidance of Frankie Tamburo and Mauro Ferrucci that Moony really started to get noticed. DB Boulevard and Moony hit #1 in UK and Australia. Point of view climbed half of the world’s charts also crossing the Atlantic, topping the US Billboard club charts for four consecutive weeks.

The track went on to become one of the biggest dance songs ever, earning the distinction of being the first Italian group to be nominated for an MTV Europe Music Award.

Moony got down to the serious business of writing her debut solo album Lifestories. The first single taken from the record was Dove (I’ll Be Loving You) followed by the second single from the album “Acrobats Looking for balance” that, once again, climb at the top of all the dance charts in the world.

Her single “I don’t know why” has three massive remixes. After many singles taken out from the album and other and collaborations like De fact with Tommy Vee, she wrote two more songs of great succes “For you love” and “He’s all I want”.

Catch this international sensation on May 7, Saturday, 9pm at the Mariner’s Court Cebu as she will replicate dance history since Bonnie Bailey’s visit in our city. The dance festival is dubbed Black Light Costume Ball. For ticket reservations, please call 09228993250 & 4163950 or visit 93rd and 1st Ayala Center Cebu.
