Mr. and Ms. Mandaue 2011
CEBU, Philippines - It’s pageant season once again in Mandaue City, and this early, organizers have forewarned candidates that unbecoming behavior will be properly sanctioned after last year’s post-pageant scuffle involving the Miss Mandaue victor and her third runner-up marred what could have been a celebratory affair. It has since been “all’s well that ends well” between the two beauty queens, and understandably, Mandaue’s beauty search committee does not wish to deal with the same headache this year.
The official candidates for Mr. and Ms. Mandaue 2011 were recently presented to the public at the Parkmall, held together with the media launch of Mandaue Fiesta 2011. This year’s fiesta theme is “Our Home, Our Future.”
Pageant director Emelio “Jojin” Pascual told The FREEMAN that the Miss Mandaue 2011 finals night will pay tribute to women achievers of Mandaue while the male pageant counterpart will honor the strong labor force of what is dubbed as the industrial hub of the province of Cebu. The line-up of honorees is still being finalized, but Pascual said they are certain to include outstanding teachers and nurses who have been most dedicated in providing public service to the constituents of Mandaue City.
Celebrity guests will include former “Pinoy Big Brother” housemates Paul Jake Castillo and Fretzie Bercede, and a special homecoming performance by “America’s Got Talent” semi-finalist Luigi Seno, whose roots are traced in Mandaue City.
Mr. Mandaue 2011 selection night will be on May 3, while Ms. Mandaue 2011 will be on May 7.

The Freeman will get to know these guys and ladies more on their poolside press meet this upcoming April, but so far we’ve learned from Jojin Pascual that a great number of them are pageant first-timers and have really touching family stories. More than half of the candidates that the pageant director has interviewed so far come from broken families, which became their motivation to join competitions like these, either to boost their confidence or support themselves with the cash prize they can get if they hopefully win. One male candidate is also the son of Mr. Mandaue 1994, so we will see if he’ll follow on his dad’s footsteps.
Other exciting entertainment events in lieu of Mandaue Fiesta 2011 will be the city’s attempt at a Guiness World Record for the biggest rice cake ever made with the “Biggest Bibingka Day” on April 27, the third edition of Mandaue Idol on May 3, and the coronation of the Queen, Prince and Princess of Mandaue 2011 on May 5. Mark the dates as we fiesta with the Mandauehanons! (FREEMAN)
