Red-hot Derek
CEBU, Philippines - It was an early Valentine treat last Feb. 11 when Smart Communications Inc. (Smart), through Connectivity Unlimited Resource Enterprise, Inc. (CURE), launched Red Mobile’s newest unlimited package, UNLI 4 (read as ‘unli quatro’) and UNLI 8 (‘unli ocho’), staking the claim as the most affordable unlimited package. Along with this newest offering was the introduction of actor-model Derek Ramsay as its first and only celebrity endorser.
Derek’s visit to the “university town” of Dumaguete—his first by the way—was highlighted with a motorcade in the morning and a show dubbed as the Crazy Low Blowout at the Lamberto Macias Sports and Cultural Center in the evening, wherein he figured in a dating game. The event also featured the Red Rockrakan Battle of the Bands plus on-ground games and raffle prizes, wherein phones and other freebies were given away. The promo stop at the capital of Negros Oriental was the start of a nationwide road tour that would also hit the cities of Davao and Cebu, according to Red Mobile execs.
Meanwhile, this latest endorsement deal of Derek is another solid nod to his credibility and bankability. Actually, Smart was one of his first product endorsements, the dramatic actor and athlete revealed in an exclusive interview with The FREEMAN. “I used to endorse Smart way back. When they told me to return just before last Christmas, I got really excited to be part again of the family,” he said.
Derek’s Red Mobile endorsement is currently supported by a couple of television commercials, and in the words of Derek, it was cool for Red Mobile to play around and make a funny thing out of his favorite asset—his six-pack abs that’s a regular fixture in his other endorsements—whether for a noodle, tuna or oatmeal brand.
It was not hard to realize why Derek was picked to be the face of Red Mobile. For one, the brand has positioned itself as a young and vibrant telecom brand. And the appeal of the well-educated hunk (he has degrees in engineering and business marketing from the US) is tailored fit to its target market.
“The whole campaign is for the young because it’s the lowest rate in the country. And you know students don’t really have that much in their pockets, but everyone knows that texting and cellphone load are two of the most important things nowadays. So definitely, the young people are the target,” Derek explained.
So how does the “lowest” unli service work? Through UNLI 4, subscribers can already enjoy a whole day of unlimited red-to-red text service for as low as P4. UNLI 8 meanwhile allows them to enjoy a whole day of unlimited red-to-red call and text services for only P8.
To avail of these lowest-priced ‘unli’ services, subscriber just needs to text TU4 (for UNLI 4) or CTU8 (for UNLI 8) to 9949.
Red Mobile also offers affordable packages that allow its subscribers to make unlimited call and text service with Smart and Talk ‘N Text and affordable transactions with other networks.
For only P15, Red Mobile subscriber can enjoy one day of unlimited texts and 10 minutes of calls to red and Smart plus 10 texts to all networks. This package can be availed by texting TU15 to 9949. For P30, subscriber can get one day of unlimited calls and texts to red and Smart plus 25 texts to all networks. Subscribers only need to text UNLI30 to 9949.
