-

CEBU, Philippines - Local music fans will be transported back in time by the marvelous voice of one of the most popular singers of the 60s when Jack Jones comes to Cebu on Oct. 15 to stage a concert at the Waterfront Cebu City Hotel and Casino. He will be performing the following day at the Araneta Coliseum in Quezon City.

Titled “Jack Jones’ Greatest Hits Tour,” the musical event will showcase the breadth and diversity of talent of the American idol who rose to fame with his distinctive music that blends vocal standards from traditional pop with swinging renditions of contemporary pop and rock hits.

Jones will enthrall the audience during the two-hour presentation from Ovation Productions with a string of his greatest hits, such as “She,” “The Love Boat Theme,” “The Impossible Dream,” “What I Did For Love,” “Wives And Lovers,” “Free Again” and “If You Go Away.”

Other all-time favorites he will perform are “The Shadow Of Your Smile,” “With One More Look At You,” “As Time Goes By,” “Strangers In The Night,” “Call Me Irresponsible,” “Lollipops And Roses,” and many more.

Born in Los Angeles to romantic lead actor and recording artist Allan Jones and actress Irene Harvey, Jack Jones began studying music in high school and, after graduation, made his professional debut at age 19 by joining his father’s act at the Thunderbird Hotel and Casino in Las Vegas. He went on his own afterwards and has been an important part of musical entertainment and show business since then.

In 1961, after being signed by Kapp Records, he recorded the ballad, “Lollipops and Roses” (a song by Tony Velona), which became a hit the following year and earned him a Grammy Award for Best Pop Male Vocal Performance.

His biggest pop hit was “Wives And Lovers” (1964) by Burt Bacharach and Hal David, which also won for him a Grammy Award for Best Pop Male Vocal Performance.

At RCA Records, where he moved to in 1967, he released his debut album, “Without Her,” followed by “If You Ever Leave Me,” “L.A. Break Down” and “Where Is Love.” His other albums at RCA Records were “A Time For Us” (1970), “Bread Winners” (1972), “Jack Jones Sings Michel Legrand (1971), “Write Me A Love Song, Charlie” (1974), “The Full Life” (1977) and “With One More Look At You” (1977).

In 1979, he transferred to MGM Records, where he made “Nobody Does It Better,” which featured disco tracks of “The Love Boat Theme” and “Wives And Lovers.”.

Although Jones has been recording only sporadically since 1980, his subsequent recordings have always elicited wide interest and attention, such as his 1982 Applause Records album that featured covers of songs by The Beatles, Billy Joel, The Eagles, and others.

As a movie actor, Jones made his film debut in “Juke Box Rhythm” (1959) and acted in other films, like “The Comeback,” “Cruise Of The Gods” and “Airplane II: The Sequel.”

He also performed regularly and hosted top-rating 60s and 70s TV variety shows.

On April 13, 1989, he was honored with his own star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame, close to where his father’s star is located.

Jones has also gained renown as a leading interpreter of musical theater, with critically-acclaimed performances in “Guys And Dolls,” “South Pacific,” “She Loves Me” and “Pajama Game”. Most recently, he went on national tour, performing the role of Don Quijote in “Man Of La Mancha.”

The musical perfection and vocal passion of Jones have earned praises and compliments from several top artists who have influenced him as a young singer.

Now on his 52nd year in show business, Jones continues to entertain with his golden voice as he performs to sold-out audiences around the globe.

The “Jack Jones Greatest Hits Tour” is produced by Ovation Productions and sponsored by Imarflex, ETC Entertainment Channel, 2nd Avenue, Hallmark Channel, Edsa Shangri-la Manila, Mercedes-Benz, RJ 100.3 FM and ABS-CBN.
