Gary V hopes old songs get second chance at the charts

- Ricky L. Calderon -

Gary Valenciano and Martin Nievera taped the final episode of their game show "Twist and Shout" last Friday. Gary V said their contract for the show is good for one season only.

"Our contract is only for one season. We actually went over for a few weeks. It's been a great ride for both Martin and I," said Gary V at the press launch of his new, full-length studio album titled "Replay," under Universal Records.

Will he miss the show? "I will miss the show very much, especially when I'm on Twitter, tapos may nagsasabi na, oh we're watching 'Twist and Shout' now. Especially people from abroad, na very stressful ang way of life, they say that watching 'Twist and Shout' over the weekend is like a stress-reliever for them. [So] I will miss it certainly. Now if ABS-CBN comes up with another show like this, I don't mind being a part of it," said Mr. Pure Energy.

Now, Gary V's also busy with his return to the recording scene via "Replay." This is Gary's 25th full-length studio album and its concept is centered on the idea of providing Gary V's previously recorded songs-all culled from his past multi-platinum albums-a second chance in the mainstream, since they did not make it to the top of the charts at the time of their release.

The album's carrier single is titled "Did It Ever" which Gary performed at his most recent concert series at the Music Museum titled "Gary V: Soul In Motion." The said song was included in the album "Relevance" which spawned such hits as "Wait Forever" and "Shake It Off."

If we would be willing to give a second chance to a person, would we be open to granting a second chance to a song from the past to become today's hit? Get a copy of "Replay" and find out for yourselves.

Vhong Navarro is happy to be chosen as one of the celebrity endorsers of the RRJ clothing brand together with pop rock princess Yeng Constantino.

It has been Vhong's longtime dream to have a billboard that can be seen along EDSA, as well as a solo endorsement. The last time he had this kind of endorsement, he shared the honors with his fellow members of Streetboys.

"Maraming mga guwapo at maganda pero kami napili ni Yeng. Talagang napansin nila ang talent namin ni Yeng kung bakit nila kami naging choice as endorsers," said Vhong who had been a solo artist for 14 years now. Vhong and Yeng were officially launched as RRJ endorsers last Oct. 10, when their respective billboards were unveiled in strategic areas along EDSA. Vhong said he plans to go around EDSA to look at his billboard and take its picture.

Vhong also revealed that he's doing a new movie for Star Cinema where he has Angelica Panganiban as co-star. Titled "Bulong" and directed by Chito Rono, this is a horror-comedy in the tradition of "Feng Shui" and "Sukob," two scary movies produced by Star Cinema.

When asked about his lovelife, Vhong said he has been loveless for a year now. When asked if he has no intentions of courting "Showtime" co-host Anne Curtis, he said it's hard to fall for a co-star. "Mas gusto na hindi ko katrabaho ang magiging girlfriend ko," said Vhong.

Young singer-actor PJ Valerio left for Hong Kong last Sunday, Oct. 10, as he got a job as part of the cast of the Golden Mickeys show of Hong Kong Disneyland.

Among 200 hopefuls, PJ topped the auditions held at Ryan Cayabyab's Music School in Robinson's Galleria some two months ago. PJ is excited because this is his first acting and singing job abroad.

We had an exclusive interview with PJ at a send-off party given to him last Saturday by the Fundamental Artist Management (his management firm).

He shared, "Golden Mickeys is a mixture of different plays from Disney like Tarzan, Hunchback of Notredame, and Mulan. I will play the role of Captain Shang in the play Mulan. That's what I am going to do basically for one year," the young singer said.

According to Wikipedia, The Golden Mickeys is a musical revue-style stage show presented in the style of an awards ceremony with characters from Disney films being nominated for awards including heroism, comedy, villains, friendship, and romance. The show originated on the Disney Cruise Line as a replacement for Morty the Magician's show. It made its land debut in Hong Kong Disneyland. "When I went to the audition, I felt excited and I really did my best because I really wanted to get the part," said the PJ, who appeared in several plays of Repertory Philippines. "It's a good experience to work abroad and US dollars ang bayad!" he jokingly said. But he was quick to add, "I was shocked at the same time excited when I learned that I got the part. God is good."
