Two Box-Office Queens In One Movie

- Ricky L. Calderon -

CEBU, Philippines - Judy Ann Santos has no intention of getting “Hating Kapatid” co-star Sarah Geronimo

as godmother of her forthcoming child. This was revealed by Juday at their movie’s presscon last Wednesday, saying that she couldn’t imagine herself calling Sarah as “kumare.”

“I can’t see myself calling Sarah as my kumare because I treat her as a younger sister and I want it to stay that way. I want to take care of her, in the same way that I would want to take care of my baby,” said Mrs. Agoncillo.

In fact, Juday said that she wants Sarah and her to be close to each other, just like true sisters. “I never imagined I’d get that close to Ate Sharon (Cuneta) after we did the movie ‘Magkapatid’ pero the friendship stayed and we really treat each other as sisters. I would want to be close to Sarah and be a sister to her if she likes it,” added Juday.

Juday also has nothing but praises for Sarah. “Masarap siyang katrabaho. At first, she was kind of shy, but later on she started opening up and even told us her secrets. But since what she told me was a secret, that would remain a secret forever,” said Juday.

Juday also said that Sarah is becoming more beautiful as she matures. “One thing about Sarah is that she’s not conscious about the way she looks. Akala niya hindi siya pretty when in fact, she is. Kahit na noong hindi pa ako naglilihi, palagi na akong tingin ng tingin kay Sarah kasi I really find her very beautiful,” the better half of actor-host Ryan Agoncillo said.

For her part, Sarah Geronimo is very happy with the chance to work with Judy Ann Santos in “Hating Kapatid.” It’s putting together two box-office queens in one movie.

“We have fun time on the set, walang pressure. Masaya ang atmosphere kasi parang hindi naman kami nagtratrabaho,” said the pop star. She was even glad that Juday invited her to her home, where they baked cookies together.

“It was really fun working with Ate Juday,” added Sarah.

Of course, at the presscon of “Hating Kapatid” held the other day, Sarah was asked the oft-repeated question on her lovelife. But the singer was quick to say she’s not yet ready to fall in love. She’s happy and focused on her career. Besides, she doesn’t want to disappoint her fans who see her as a role model.

“Lovelife can wait. It will come at the right time and at the right place. We should not force it,” said Sarah. And Juday said amen to that.

Excitement is in the air with the forthcoming release of “Hating Kapatid” on July 21, directed by Wenn Deramas from the script of Mel Mendoza-del Rosario. The movie also stars JC De Vera, Luis Manzano, Gina Pareño, Cherry Pie Picache, and introducing Vice Ganda.

Star Cinema is set to mark another milestone in the Philippine horror genre, as it presents “Cinco.”

The movie is a product from a new breed of Philippine movie directors and cinema visionaries who will push the horror genre to the next level. First conceptualized by two of ABS-CBN’s brilliant and creative minds, Enrico Santos and Joel Mercado, “Cinco” vows to give the viewing public five horrifying episodes surprisingly interconnected by a single element.

“Mata,” topbilled by Maja Salvador and Rayver Cruz, is directed by Ato Bautista. The cast includes David Chua.

“Mukha,” starring Mariel Rodriguez, is directed by Nick Olanka and also features Nanding Josef and Ketchup Eusebio.

“Braso” is led by members of Gigger Boys—Sam Concepcion, AJ Perez and Robi Domingo—under the direction of Frasco Mortiz. The episode also stars Cristel Moreno, Fred Payawan and Baron Geisler.

“Puso” features Pokwang and hunk actor Zanjoe Marudo, with box-office director Cathy Garcia Molina at the helm. Also featured are Malou de Guzman, Empoy Marquez and Bangs Garcia.

Last but not the least is “Paa,” which is topbilled by award-winning actress Jodi Santamaria. This is the first directorial job of Enrico Santos, the man behind ABS-CBN’s top-rating primetime shows such as “Dyosa,” “Ligaw na Bulaklak,” “Habang May Buhay,” “Kung Fu Kids,” and “Super Inggo.”

“‘Cinco’ is unlike your typical horror film. The episodes are interrelated that’s why you should watch it from the beginning. It will show the different kinds of horror in our minds,” said Direk Enrico.

“Cinco” opens on July 14 in more than 100 theaters nationwide.
