Gary and Martin bring hit tandem from concert stage to game show

Not even in their wildest dreams could Martin Nievera and Gary Valenciano have imagined that they’d see themselves hosting a game show together. But the Kapamilya network saw the potential of the tandem of Martin and Gary to be TV hosts of the new Kapamilya game show Twist and Shout which premieres this Saturday, July 3 at 8:45 p.m. on ABS-CBN. It will also air on same time on Sundays.

This is the first time that Martin and Gary are hosting a game show. During the presscon for Twist and Shout last Monday, both admitted they enjoyed doing it.

“The thing about the show is, even if you see it again and again, first of all the person who’s going to try it (the obstacles) won’t have the same strength as the net person who’s going to do it next. It’s really hard. Certain things would change. Certain things would remain for the next week and so on,” explained Gary without revealing what are the obstacles that the contestants would go through in the contest.

“We’d probably do this show for 13 weeks or 15 weeks so it depends if it’s going to be extended. If it rates, then management would probably extend it,” added Martin. “There is a beginning and there would be an end. Hopefully, if people catch on and they would like it, then the others would copy and have their versions of it, maybe we could be extended.”

“I’ve never been a game show host. This is my first time, but I have Martin. I know we’re both going to learn from each other. We’re ready for the challenges,” said Gary.

“ABS-CBN has created a lot of game shows but the core element in Twist and Shout is not to try to be a game show and us not to be like Edu Manzano, Cesar Montano, or Kris Aquino. We will just be Martin and Gary.”

“Twist and Shout” will feature celebrities singing the country’s top tunes while facing distractions such as running on a treadmill, becoming a human roulette, or being dipped in cold water.

Every episode two celebrity teams with three players each will undergo three rounds with different distractions. Each one will take one round and his only goal is to continue singing and endure the disruption for whole two minutes.

Judges Aiza Seguerra and Jimmy Bondoc alongside a weekly celebrity guest will be giving them points and the team with the highest number of points will proceed to the final round called the Turn Table.

The winning team must sing for two minutes while on top of the rotating circular platform to be able to win the jackpot prize. The timer will not stop until a member of the team is still standing and the moment the clock hits two minutes, three lucky audience on their side will divide among themselves P200,000.

But according to Martin and Gary, who have taped two episodes for Twist and Shout, standing on the rotating platform is easier said than done. But there lies the challenge — can you do it for P200,000?

Albert Martinez will direct the filmfest entry of Cinemabuhay titled Rosario which stars Jennylyn Mercado and Dennis Trillo. Filming starts on July 8.

The final cast include Jennylyn as Rosario, Dennis as Ricardo, Isabel Oli as Carmen, sid Lucero as Carding, Yul Servo as Vicente, Phillip Salvador as Don Enrique, Eula Valdez as Dona Adela, Dolphy as Jesus, Empress Schuck as Soledad and Ricky Davao as Miguel.

According to Albert, they have a great material in “Rosario” and it’s been five years in the making. If we are not mistaken, this is first assignment of Albert as a film director. And it’s a big challenge since he’s joining the December filmfest where top film outfits usually have entries.

 “The Twlight Saga: Eclipse” celebrity and press screening held at the Cinema 5 of Promenade in Greenhills was a huge success. The event was graced by top celebrities and VIPs as well as movie press members and media group who are self confessed fans of Edward, Bella and Jacob.

The event was presented by FILA in cooperation with DMCI Homes, Posh Nails, Calcium Cee, Ardere Skin and Body Clinic and Hairshaft Salon.

“The Twilight Saga: Eclipse” is brought to you locally by Pioneer Films, the same outfit which brought us hit movies like “Lord of the Rings (trilogy), “Rush Hour,” “Resident Evil,” “Underworld,” “The Golden Compass” and “Sex and the city.”
