Coco Martin finds his Niche In The Action Genre

“Tonyong Bayawak” lead star Coco Martin shared that he started getting comfortable with challenging action roles after being immersed in the top-rating military-themed TV series "Tayong Dalawa."

“Yung experience ko sa Tayong Dalawa, nakatulong ngayon dito sa Tonyong Bayawak. May mga action scenes kasi doon. Ang kaibahan lang, may prosthetics ako dito at may powers,” Coco shared.

He added, “Na-e-enjoy ko po yung mga ganitong klaseng role dahil bukod sa challenging, masaya siya. Di ka lang kasi basta bibitaw ng linya. Pati galaw sa mga eksena lalo na yung maaksyon dapat controlled rin.”

“Portraying action roles is one of Coco Martin’s strongest points. He breathes life to strong characters with a breeze. Kaya niyang kumawala sa comfort zone niya,” said Direk Dondon Santos, director of high-rating "Agimat presents Tonyong Bayawak."

Meanwhile, Tonyo (Coco) has created a noise in their community as he saved his townspeople from danger. This Saturday, Tonyong Bayawak’s true identity will be revealed as his close friend gets a hunch that there is something extraordinary with Tonyo.

Agimat presents Tonyong Bayawak airs every Saturday after TV Patrol Sabado.

If elections were held today, a new face among the senatoriables will most likely join the Magic 12, and that's Nacionalista Party spokesman and senatorial candidate Gilbert Remulla.

In a survey conducted by the Social Weather Station, Remulla garnered 24% ratings, enough for him to gain the 12th spot. The survey was done March 19 to 22, 2010 with 2,100 respondents, and commissioned by Business World.

According to political analysts, he may be the biggest surprise considering most of those who made it to the winning column as per latest survey are either incumbent or past senators.

Gilbert, a former Cavite congressman and broadcast journalist, gained national prominence in the political front by heading the “Hello Garci” investigations in the House of Representatives linking President Gloria Macapagal Arroyo to electoral fraud during the 2004 presidential elections.

Gilbert said he was elated about this development and vowed to campaign even harder. His platform focuses on livelihood, housing and education. He added that they are concentrating their campaign on areas where the Nacionalista Party is deemed weak. “We feel we need to concentrate inMindanao and the Visayas. We also need to strengthen our hold in the NCR region,” said the good-looking senatorial aspirant when he met with the members of the entertainment press last Wednesday over lunch.

Among his bevy of supporters, who have been campaigning for him in the past months or so, perhaps no one could come close to the effort and dedication exerted by his mother-in-law Mrs. Ruby Diaz-Roa, mother of Gilbert’s beautiful wife, Georgia, who can be seen during social functions here and there, soliciting the votes of the people for her son-in-law.

Along with Mrs. Roa supporting Gilbert is her whole family of showbiz personalities, all of whom are endorsing the candidacy of the former TV reporter. Ruby Roa, after all, is the sister of beauty queens Gloria Diaz and the late Rio Diaz-Cojuangco. Georgia is the first cousin of Georgina Wilson and Isabelle Daza. With them in the campaign are Aurora and Georgie, the two other sisters or Ruby Diaz-Roa.

The former Miss Universe was the one who accompanied Gilbert in Hong Kong. “They didn’t call me Miss Universe. They called me Miss U. In fact, when we campaigned in Hong Kong, sometimes the people have the impression that I was the one running for senator. We had two people holding Gilbert’s tarpaulin while I was talking and I was pointing out to the people that it is Gilbert who is running and who they should vote for,” recalled Ms. Gloria.

“They wanted to know about showbiz but I told them that it is Gilbert whom they should vote for. That is the problem with artistas endorsing candidates. Sometimes they endorse somebody, but they don’t ask enough about the people they are endorsing or maybe they don’t know enough about the person. Fortunately, I am a relative so I know a lot about what Gilbert can do. And even if he was my relative, if I really didn’t think he was good, this is the last place you would see me,” added the former Miss Universe.

“Bawat puntahan namin na lugar sa Hong Kong, sinasabi nila 'Ah, kayo pala ang ikinakampanya ni Gloria Diaz.’ They probably read it on the papers or they saw it on the event kung saan nagsalita si Tita Glory. So, it was very helpful and hopefully this would bear a lot of fruit coming towards May 10,” said Gilbert, who is also being helped by Bayan Productions (owned by Vice President Noli de Castro and his wife Arlene de Castro).

Gilbert used to have a show with Bayan Productions titled Kabuhayang Swak na Swak.
