Anne, Sam talk about new film, working with its first-time director

- Ricky L. Calderon -

Former sweethearts Anne Curtis and Sam Milby first worked together in the TV series “Maging Sino Ka Man” and “Dyosa.” Now, they are working for the very first time together in a movie—“Babe, I Love You” under Star Cinema—directed by first-time director Mae Cruz.

So how was it different working on TV and working on a big-screen project?

“For me, in terms of our working relationship, nothing has changed. But in terms of the scope of work, we shot lesser scenes in the movie compared to the number of scenes we shot for the TV series,” said Sam.

“In terms of working relationship, I must say that Anne and I work so well. I guess what is good about us working together in our first film is that our director, Mae Cruz, also worked with us in ‘Dyosa’ so she knew what buttons to push in terms of motivating us in our scenes. It is also Direk Mae’s first movie so we really worked hand-in-hand in making this movie work well to our advantage,” added Sam.

Anne agreed, “I believe our acting in the movie looked relaxed because we’ve worked with Direk Mae before in ‘Dyosa.’ She knew us already. The three of us are also friends so we find it easier to discuss our scenes together. If our acting came out well in the movie, we should give credit to Direk Mae for bringing out the best in both of us. She really guided Sam and I well in our scenes together.”

“With the help of Direk Mae, we showed different nuances of acting in our movie,” echoed Anne and Sam.

Newbie film director Mae Cruz said that when she was younger she dreamt of becoming an artista. But she had this rude awakening after learning that for one to be an artista, one must have a good singing voice. It was one talent that, sad to say, Direk Mae didn’t possess. And so, she opted to have a career behind the camera.

“Based on my experience when I was younger, a good singing voice is really a plus factor if one wants to become a movie star,” said Direk Mae, who is good-looking enough to become an artista. “When I realized that I didn’t have the voice, I felt that a work backstage would be something that would suit me. Besides, I am really the shy type of person so I am not really cut out to be an artista,” added Direk Mae, who has found her calling in behind-the-scenes showbiz work. “I enjoy directing more than being in front of the camera,” she concluded.

We had the chance to talk to Joyce Jimenez last week in an intimate presscon given to her by her long-time manager Shirley Kuan, and in our lunch at Via Mare Restaurant in Tomas Morato, Quezon City, Joyce brought along her five-month-old daughter named Jorja.

“I realized it’s hard to be a full-time mom,” confessed the still sexy Joyce. “It’s hard to take care of the baby while I also had to tend to the household chores because we don’t have a maid. Parang kulang ako lagi sa tulog.”

“My husband helps me when he comes home but then, all my time is dedicated to Baby Jorja so I have to find time to do laundry, prepare meals, and keep the house clean while the baby is asleep,” she continued.

“The only time I have to do my household chores is when Jorja is sleeping. Minsan maigsi lang naman siya mag-nap like 40 minutes so I really have to make real good use of my time. I have to maintain the house and take care of my baby at the same time.”

Joyce and her husband recently bought a house in San Diego, California and she finds it amusing that they purchased the house on the day baby Jorja was born. “The people from whom we bought the house had to go to the hospital after I gave birth so we could sign all the papers,” related Joyce who is still breastfeeding baby Jorja.

Joyce has kept her sexy figure despite having a baby and she’s excited to do some acting work while she’s in Manila for a vacation.
