CEBU, Philippines - A movie that is both relevant and enlightening will grace Cebu in a special screening on March 5 and 6, 2010 at the LGB AVR of the University of San Carlos (USC) Law and Business Building, Pelaez Street, Cebu City.
“DUKOT” is a full-length film that tackles enforced disappearances or desaparacidos” (literally, the disappeared) and extra-judicial killings.
It stars Allen Dizon as Junix, the abducted activist and Iza Calzado as Maricel, Junix’s girlfriend who already abandoned activism. Both characters were abducted, tortured and killed. Palanca-awardee Bonifacio Ilagan wrote “Dukot,” which is directed by multi-awarded filmmaker Joel C. Lamangan.
Other casts are Gina Alajar, Robert Arevalo, Snooky Serna, Emilio Garcia and Felix Roco.
This special screening is sponsored by USC Department of Sociology-Anthropology as part of their So-An Week Celebration. Other sponsors are non-government organizations Community Empowerment Resource Network (CERNET) and Farmers Development Center (FARDEC). Part of the proceeds of the special screening will go to the sponsoring NGO’s water projects.
The following are the schedule of screenings: March 5, 2010: 1-3pm; 3:30 - 5pm; 6-8pm, and 3:10-4:50pm. March 6, 2010: 8:20-10am; 10:20-12:10am; and 1-2:40pm.
