1st Visayan Music Festival kicks off this weekend
CEBU, Philippines - Bands get united for a cause in a two-night, non-stop concert dubbed as the Visayan Music Festival 2009. The grand event will kick off on the night of November 6, beginning 6PM and ends on the morning of November 8 at 6AM at the Family Park, Talamban, Cebu City.
Tickets are sold for P150 on the day of the event itself and the beneficiary of the event is the Cebu City Task Force on Street Children.
Over seventy bands will perform, including Up Dharma Down, Radioactive Sago Project, and Manila-based Cebuano bands like Urbandub, Cueshe, and Dice & K9. Other Cebu bands are Aggressive Audio, Junior Kilat, Sheila and the Insects, Powerspoonz, among others. The event features different music genres such as rock, alternative, metal, hip-hop, jazz, tribal and contemporary music.
Spectators who wish to stay for the entire concert are encouraged to bring their camping materials such as tents and blankets. An array of food and drink stalls is available within the vicinity.
Initiated and organized by Black Stone Production in cooperation with MTV Philippines, the Visayan Music Festival is the first of its kind to happen in Cebu City. The Visayan Music Festival has the same kind of orientation of the California’s very popular Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival, which has a desert setting and where people take pleasure in little cloud cover or shade.
“It’s a concert for a cause where music lovers get to enjoy non-stop live band performances and, at the same time, song artists get to showcase their talents,” said Black Stone Production Organizer Patrick and Chuchie Tsesemeli.
According to the organizers, there will be more Visayan Music Festivals in the years to come as they plan to hold such event annually with international artists in the next editions all in the commitment to develop the biggest exposure for the Philippine music scene.
“The Philippines has many talented artists. We want the Visayan Music Festival to create an impact of celebration every year and to become an international rendezvous in Cebu City,” organizers said.
