What's up with Megan Young?

“I have no regrets so far and I don’t think I will.” So declared young star and TV host Megan Young, referring to her transfer to ABS-CBN from GMA-7 two years ago. For those who don’t know it, Megan was an avenger during the second edition of GMA-7’s artista search “Starstruck” in 2005. After not so meaty roles and a few hosting exposures, she “jumped ship” and was introduced as a Kapamilya through “Pinoy Big Brother Celebrity 2.”

I had the chance to meet her in person when she showed up at the Gaisano Main and Gaisano Countrymall as celebrity guest last Saturday. She had a successful show at the respective stores with a lot of the viewers chanting “Marcella, Marcella”—her character’s name in the ABS-CBN’s adaptation of “I Love Betty La Fea”—everytime she appeared on stage.

In the car (on our way to Countrymall from Main), I told her that she has been in many pageant fanatics’ wish list of Bb. Pilipinas bets for many years now. But Megan could only smile and say thank you. When I persisted by asking if we will eventually see her in the Bb. Pilipinas pageant one of these days, Megan just said “maybe.” She explained that she actually thought of joining, but it is not a priority.

Megan’s dad is from Virginia, USA and her mom is from Antique, but she looks more of a Latina than an American. She stands 5’8 tall and for me, her best asset is her beautiful eyes. She looks like a doll in person. She is articulate, although she describes herself as talkative. She would definitely be a strong contender should she decide to join Bb. Pilipinas—but that has to wait.

At 19, she has a non-showbiz boyfriend who is her age. Asked by the E-Group during an intimate dinner at Lighthouse Restaurant after her show why she chose a non-showbiz boyfriend instead of having an actor who could certainly understand the nature of her job, she reasoned that it’s better that way because the privacy of their relationship will be maintained. But she admitted that she had shows which her boyfriend did not dare watch, especially those that involved kissing scenes.

Hosting “VIP Pass” for Cinema One and substituting for Cheska Garcia in “US Girls” on Studio 23, Megan claimed she is contented with the way Star Magic is handling her career. She is very much at home with villain roles than being the protagonist.

“If I play a nice girl role parang boring for me because you need to be demure. Ako pa naman loud and talkative,” she explained. She also hopes to tackle someday a role with a dual personality.

Given the chance to choose a leading man for a dream project, fellow Kapamilya star Jericho Rosales is her top choice, this is because she was a fan of the actor’s very successful series “Pangako Sa ‘Yo” years ago.

“Napapanood ko rin siya sa ‘Pangako Sa’Yo’ nung bata ako and my teachers were so crazy about it (series),” she admitted.

While waiting for her next acting break, she’s keeping herself busy with hosting stints and with studies at the Holy Trinity College in Quezon City where she is a mass communications junior. She loves to work behind the camera, but because she has the opportunity to be on cam, who is she to refuse such a chance?

Catch the most awaited beauty pageant for a cause tonight at the Waterfront Cebu City Hotel and Casino, 7pm. Of course, I am talking about the much-hyped “Queen,” which is being dubbed by the organizers as “A Pageant for Alternatives.” The music, the fashion creations and the candidates will merge into one fantastic show.

Organized by the Clothes for Life with Operation Smile as its beneficiary, world-class designer Cary Santiago is very much part of this pageant for a cause. Promising Cebuano designers Lord Maturan of the Philippines’ Project Runway, Jun Escario’s brother Rei, and Mique Yapching, who was touted by Preview magazine as the “one to watch out for this year,” will show what they are made of by taking care of the Funwear portion.

People are also already talking about the live performance tonight of Junior Kilat’s Budoy during the Funwear portion. He will perform his new masterpiece entitled “Shody Abas,” which is actually a version of his mainstream hit, “Ayaw’g Saba.” What makes it more interesting this time is that Budoy will be singing it live with Flemish producer Nico Devroe, who worked on Technotronic’s monster hit “Pump Up The Jam.”

Therefore, if you have no ticket yet, get one now at the Waterfront Lahug lobby and Ayala Cebu concierge. Or you may also call Clothes for Life at (+63-32) 267-8018).

Also later, catch ABS-CBN’s primetime princess Erich Gonzales at Gaisano Main (6pm) and at Countrymall (8pm) for a mini-show still in connection with the mall’s month-long celebration of its 16th anniversary. With viewers going gaga over Erich’s performance as Nene in the top-rating teleseries “Katorse,” you can now see her in the flesh. See you there!
