Discovery channel gets you up-close and personal with the ocean's most ferocious predator
Feared. Admired. Hunted.
Threatened. Misunderstood. All of which can be used to describe one of the ocean’s apex predators – the shark. This October, Discovery Channel’s SHARK WEEK returns to get you re-acquainted with these magnificent animals – from the science of shark behavior at night to amazing survival stories and a close-up encounter with the Great White.
SHARK WEEK kicks off on Monday, October 5 at 9:00 pm (PHL) with DAY OF THE SHARK: SHARK ATTACK FILES. Other programs in the line-up include DAY OF THE SHARK 2, GREAT WHITE APPETITE, SHARK AFTER DARK, DEADLY WATERS, SHARKBITE SUMMER, and BLOOD IN THE WATER. Please refer to the individual program descriptions for airing details.
The sight of a fin breaking the water is enough to send swimmers, surfers, and beach-goers into a panic. But there is more to the shark than just its bad reputation as a ferocious killer. Intelligent, graceful, and undeniably an efficient predator, this infamous fish continues to fascinate us. For more than a decade, Discovery Channel’s SHARK WEEK has kept viewers on the edge of their seats, intriguing and educating them at the same time. Featuring the world’s most renowned shark scientists and experienced underwater photographers, SHARK WEEK delves into the world of this shadowy sea-lurker.
Here are some SHARK WEEK’s program descriptions:
Sharkbite Summer
It’s the summer of 2001 and America is gripped by shark fever. As sharkbite cases mount, Time Magazine’s front cover proclaims it, The Summer of the Shark. Were the ocean’s predators really taking back America’s shores? SHARKBITE SUMMER presents a definitive bite-by-bite account of shark attacks and the ensuing panic during that intense summer.
Premieres October 10, 9:00pm (PHL). Encores October 17, 7:00 pm.
Blood In The Water
Seen through the eyes of the victims, witnesses and the shark itself, BLOOD IN THE WATER captures the first instance of our fear of this lurking creature. As a dramatic chain of killings escalates into terror, these attacks will turn sharks into the most feared creatures on the planet and inspire the movie, Jaws.
Premieres October 11, 9:00 pm (PHL) Encores October 12, 12:00 am, 8:00 am, 2:00 pm and October 18, 4:00 am, 8:00 am and 7:00 pm.
