Kris vows not to interfere with Noynoy's lovelife

SHOWBIZ DRIBBLE - Salve V. Asis -

CEBU, Philippines - Filming a comedy is no laughing matter. To make it work requires the right mix of good acting, masterful directing and a really funny story. “Kimmy Dora” has all these ingredients, making it a comedy that is a cut above the rest.

For her first solo starrer, Eugene Domingo delivers big-time, more so because her role is a challenging one. She plays two characters, twins with totally different personalities. Kimmy is the overbearing overachiever whose manners are as coarse as sandpaper. She is the evil sis to Dora, a mentally challenged but kindhearted creature who almost drowned in a toilet bowl at birth.

Eugene shuttles back and forth between the two characters, and succeeds in making each one unique yet complementary. The role is, needless to say, doubly difficult, but Eugene handled it with aplomb.

Credit also goes to the rest of the cast, including the handful of stars with cameo appearances like Piolo Pascual, who produced the movie under his Spring Films outfit. Everybody was funny, bar none.

Timing is crucial in comedy, and Director Joyce Bernal’s control of the madness on the set is spot-on. The Bernal touch is characterized by an almost obsessive attention to detail, and it shows through in “Kimmy-Dora.” The scenes are well-choreographed; there are no loose ends.

Writer Chris Martinez adds to the winning recipe with a story that bounces merrily along. The twins switch roles with hilarious consequences. Kimmy gets kidnapped by villains whose actual target is Dora. With Kimmy gone, Dora must secretly assume her role as CEO of the family business empire, with a lot of help from company executive Dingdong Dantes, who vaguely resembles Christopher Reeves’ Clark Kent. When Kimmy escapes from the kidnappers, she confronts her sister in the boardroom. Everyone is confused. Who is the real Kimmy? Who is the real Dora? And how will this mayhem end?

If you want to watch a film that’s guaranteed to give you a laugh a minute, “Kimmy Dora” is an excellent choice.

One day after airing a plea on primetime TV for her brother Noynoy to remain single, Kris Aquino had to make a quick turnaround.

On Wednesday’s “Showbiz News Ngayon,” Kris had a lengthy reaction to the clamor for Noynoy to run for President next year. In the midst of it all, she managed to stick in some non-political wishful thinking about her brother. “I only have one request. Whatever it is that you decide, please stay single.”

The following day, on the same show, Kris confessed that her remark didn’t go down well with Noynoy. “Noy was upset. I told him, ‘I just really feel that you have enough decisions to make right now. I wish you wouldn’t complicate life even further.’ And he said, ‘It’s time you stop picking on me.’”

So she promised her brother that “As far as your love life is concerned,” she would not interfere “privately and publicly.” It makes many wonder how Kris is getting along with Noynoy’s girlfriend, Valenzuela City Councilor Shalanie “Lani” Soledad. Unassuming and media-shy, Lani has managed to keep a low profile even during the burial of Noynoy’s mom, former President Corazon Aquino.

Lani and Noynoy marked the first year of their relationship last Saturday, but there was no celebration. He’s in Mindanao on a retreat, and she’s busy attending to her constituents in Valenzuela.

Elizabeth Taylor and Macaulay Culkin were among the celebrities that attended the private funeral of Michael Jackson last week.

Almost four months after died of heart failure, the King of Pop was laid to rest in a mausoleum in Forest Lawn cemetery in Glendale , California.

A motorcade of 31 cars escorted the hearse bearing the remains of pop icon from his rented mansion in Encino to the cemetery.

The choice of Forest Lawn as Jackson ’s final resting place was revealed only last week. There had been speculation that he would be buried in his former estate, Neverland Ranch.

Less than 300 people attended the ceremony, according to wire reports.
