CEBU, Philippines – Things waxed exciting in the Queen City of the South during the Independence Weekend. The Kaskades got everyone on their feet at the Loft, while rock band Kapatid brought the house down during their album launch in Vudu. But there was a different beat rocking the Outpost Bar—it was the official launch of Islands Souvenirs’ new line featuring patriotic designs, the Philippine islands or P.i.
Though rain poured hard that night, yuppies and music aficionados flocked the venue to check out the music and of course, the 16 designs that P.i initially released to the market. (They have new additional designs now).
A fortunate few proudly wore their P.i. tees, becoming the walking advertisements for the night and making the rest of us ogle. Some of the 20 young endorsers chosen by Islands Souvenirs to be part of this nationalism campaign also showed up. Victor Villanueva of the award-winning Cebu-based indie film “Confessional” was seen roaming around the venue, wearing his P.i shirt.
Urbandub’s frontman Gabby Alipe was also among the music personalities present, along with Missing Filemon vocalist Insoy Niñal and Sheila and the Insects’ Ian Zafra.
The official launch was perked up with band performances by ethno-tribal-rock sounds from Mungkanghan, as well as pop-alternative tunes from Pandora. Other performers were “raggametal” Powerspoonz, and The Line Divides, who capped the night with alternative/rock numbers.
The Pi official launch was a production by Kalye Musika.
