Pianist Chloe Canton to perform at Sacred Heart School - Jesuit
CEBU, Philippines – Pianist Chloe Borromeo Canton will perform at 7:30 P.M. on June 19 at the Virginia S. Chiongbian Mini Theater at the Sacred Heart School – Jesuit, Canduman, Mandaue City.
Ms. Canton started taking piano lessons in the Suzuki method with Ms. Fe A. Reynes when she was three and a half years old. At the age of five, she became a representative to the First Philippine National Suzuki Conference in Manila. In 1991, she was awarded the Salvador & Pilar Sala Foundation Scholarship, and gave her debut solo recital at the age of 15.
Thereafter, she pursued piano studies with Prof. Carmencita Arambulo at the University of the Philippines College of Music, where she was the recipient of the Carminda Regala Piano Scholarship. In April 1999, she was invited to the 13th Suzuki Method World Convention held in Matsumoto, Japan, and in 2001, obtained her Bachelor of Music Degree in Piano Performance.
In the following year, she was granted a scholarship by the Arts Council of Cebu Foundation and completed her Master of Music Degree in Piano Performance in 2004 under the tutelage of Prof. Jovianney Emmanuel Cruz.
Ms. Canton has participated in various workshops and master classes given by world-renowned artists and has performed in several music festivals around the world. She continues to perform solo recitals and chamber music collaborations. In July 2003, she was invited to perform in Brittany, France, for the benefit of the White Cross Foundation. As a Suzuki piano teacher, she attended the 2nd Asian Suzuki Conference held in Taipei, Taiwan in 2004, and the 14th Suzuki World Convention held in Turin, Italy in 2006. She is currently teaching at Greenhills Music Studio. Ms. Canton will be leaving for the U.S.A. to pursue her Doctoral studies at the Catholic University of America in Washington D.C. in the fall.
