Myrus revives classic jukebox song "Sayang"
CEBU, Philippines – Sony BMG Music Entertainment recording artist Myrus has released a revival of Claire dela Fuente’s jukebox classic “Sayang” as his second single.
Myrus, Asian Star Entertainment Awards (ASEA) 2008 Most Promising Young RnB Performer, is the first male artist to cover the three-decades-old song. He has successfully owned “Sayang” by giving it a highly emotional vocal interpretation and a contemporary flavor with a hint of RnB.
“I am thankful that Dyna Records which holds the publishing rights of ‘Sayang’ allowed me to reinterpret this beautiful song. I hope that I become instrumental for its continuous popularity among my generation,” the 19-year-old Myrus said.
Myrus finished filming the official music video of “Sayang” in late February. Produced by Chris Cahilig Consultancy and SineGang Productions, the visually compelling music video depicts a story of a man (Myrus) who fell in love with a woman (MYX VJ Bianca Roque) who is unfortunately committed to his best friend (top model Andre Ronquillo). The music video was shot at Eastwood Mall.
“I enjoyed shooting the music video. It is well made and I’m sure a lot of people would be able to relate to its narrative,” he said.
“Sayang,” as well as a collaboration song with Dice and K9 Mobbstarr titled “Kaya Mo!”, will be a part of the repackaged version of his album “Love Cycle” which is due for release next month. The album likewise contains Myrus’ hit single “Laging Ikaw” and eight other original love songs.
“Love Cycle” is Myrus’ big break into the music scene. Weeks upon release in November in 2008, its carrier single “Laging Ikaw” became a huge radio hit. The catchy love song was used as an official music for slimming brand FernSlim and became a soundtrack of popular TV shows including “Daisy Siete” (GMA 7) and “Lipgloss” (TV5).
At present, Myrus is busy promoting his album through guest appearances on radio and TV as well as shows in Robinson’s and SM malls. He began to reach out to his fans outside Metro Manila by holding a series of provincial radio tours in Iloilo, Bukidnon, Davao, Albay, and Cebu.
Myrus is managed by Chris Cahilig Consultancy. For booking inquiries, interested parties may contact 02-687-2649 and 02-7063373 or text 0915-8661238. His official website is www.myrus.net.
