BEAutiful or BETTYFUL?

Many are wondering if Bea Alonzo (as Betty) will really transform into a fine-looking lady in the TV series “I Love Betty La Fea,” aired weeknights on ABS-CBN’s Primetime Bida Block.

Betty did not have much luck on her lovelife. As she tries her chance in the reality show, she slowly imbibes beauty in herself. More than her need for money, Betty also learns to appreciate external beauty.

Will she get hold of that luck in the reality show she chose to join and be beautiful not only inside but outside as well? Or will she remain the Betty-ful Betty that the people have always known?

In the original version of this adaptation of a soap opera from Argentina, entitled “Yo Soy Betty La Fea,” the title character had a major makeover, emerging from her “ugly duckling” self into a beautiful swan. In the highly successful version, the title character maintained her not-so-pretty and not-so-fashionable self, and yet won the hearts of people around her. Which path shall the Pinoy Betty take?

Beauty maybe a selling factor on TV, but what a refreshing change it would be on television and what a statement it would make on viewers, should they make this unlikely protagonist work.
