Marian Rivera's emotional outburst

- Ricky L. Calderon -

PLUS: Co-stars are all praises for Ogie Alcasid in “Desperadas 2”; ; Jake Cuenca and Gerald Anderson are rival “PMA-ers” in “Tayong Dalawa”

Marian Rivera nearly eclipsed all of her co-stars—namely Ruffa Gutierrez, Rufa Mae Quinto, Iza Calzado and Ogie Alcasid, as well, Christian Vasquez, Will Devaughn, Jay-R., TJ Trinidad and Carlo Guevara—at the presscon of “Desperadas 2” held last Monday at the Imperial Suites in Quezon City.

She burst into tears while answering the question if she’s really pregnant as the rumors have it. It was the first time that Marian faced such a large throng of press people for the presscon of “Desperadas 2” and the phenomenal star couldn’t help but be emotional.

“I am not pregnant,” she began, “and I have a lot of blessings coming into my life and I wouldn’t allow such a thing to happen to me. Besides, it’s too early for me to get into something like that. Masyado pang maaga para mangyari sa akin iyan. At lalong hindi ako tanga para magpabaya ako at hayaan na mangyari iyan.”

Marian said she would make sure that she has done whatever she wants to happen in her career before she gets herself pregnant. She said she worked hard before she achieved what she has right now.

“If ever I get pregnant, I myself would tell you about it. Hindi ko ito dadaanin sa pa-smile-smile lang,” said Marian who added she’s puzzled why the pregnancy rumor surfaced. “I don’t know how this started but I guess they are saying that this involves Dingdong Dantes.”

Referring to the interview of Karylle on The Buzz last Sunday, wherein Karylle simply smiled and stared when asked by host Boy Abunda if Marian was pregnant, Marian continued, “Ako na mismo ang nagsasabi sa inyo na hindi ako buntis. When the rumor first came out, the people, who are really close to me, called me up. They said okay naman daw ang mga sagot ng ibang tanong. Ang problema lang ‘yung huling sagot kasi parang may malisya. She could have answered I don’t know dahil if you’re going to ask me, I was offended by what was said. Napikon ako.”

Then Marian started crying and was kind of uncontrollable.

“If ever I will have a relationship with anyone, I will admit it because I am proud of my past boyfriends,” said Marian.

Later we learned that what made Marian more irritated even before she was asked about the pregnancy issue was because of a scathing remark made by a columnist as Marian was walking her way (with her bandaged ankle and all) to the presidential table. Marian just happened to glance at the movie columnist who blurted out, “Plastikada” which Marian heard loud and clear as it was really directed at her. This was what made Marian more pikon, and later made her cry.

Guess what was Mother Lily Monteverde’s reaction on what transpired at the presscon? “Kikita ang pelikula.”

Ogie Alcasid is playing the role of the long-lost sister of the original Desperadas girls. Yes, he’s playing the role of a woman and he even has a kissing scene with his leading man Carlo Guevara. The singer considers it a big challenge to have played the part and his co-stars have nothing but praises for him.

But no matter the good words that he received from his co-stars, Ogie is discounting the possibility of winning an award for his work in “Desperadas 2.”

“I don’t think I have a chance. It’s tough to go up against the dramatic actors. But to be nominated for my performance is good enough for me,” said the singer who is into boxing as a form of exercise. He goes to the fight club located at Tomas Morato, together with his girlfriend Regine Velasquez.

On December 20 and 21, Ogie is doing the concert “An Idol Experience: Ogie Sings with the Idols” to be held at the Aliw Theater. Produced by The Underground Studio (TUGS) under the supervision of Brian Sombrero, the concert gathers for the first time Ogie, American Idol Season 7’s Filipino-American finalist Ramiele Malubay, and the first Pinoy Idol Top 3 namely Ram Chaves, Jayann Bautista and Gretchen Espina. They will also be joined by other Pinoy Idol finalists and the indie rock outfit Manaya. The show starts at 8 p.m. at the Aliw Theater.

Even if the temperature in Baguio is nearly freezing, the “Tayong Dalawa” cast and production went there to shoot some of the “big scenes” of the forthcoming TV series.

Some scenes were taken at the PMA (Philippine Military Association) Baguio since Jake Cuenca and Gerald Anderson will both portray PMA Cadets.

Their roles are not easy. Their movements are limited because the uniform that the PMA-ers wear is considered sacred. In fact, the uniform should be properly worn without any crease or crinkle. They should not shout or crack jokes while wearing it. “Sobrang sikip pero kailangan,” Gerald expressed when asked how he feels wearing a PMA uniform.

According to a PMA official who facilitated the scenes, the “Tayong Dalawa” shoot is the biggest and the most difficult taping/shooting so far.

Jake and Gerald had a hard time on some scenes because they don't have any CAT experience. But they were able to pull it off with the help of real PMA officials.

Since they need to act and look like real PMA cadets, Jake and Gerald also had their hair cut. Don't miss the new characters of Jake and Gerald on Tayong Dalawa, soon on ABS-CBN.

KC Concepcion is excited about doing “Katy the Musical Concert” which features her alongside another great talent, Jericho Rosales, under the direction of Freddie Santos. This is a tribute concert, which started in 1988 at the very popular Rizal Theater, to the “Queen of the Vaudeville,” Katy dela Cruz, who was loved and adored by her fans.

“I will be doing one duet with Echo and we are doing the love story of Katy. And I think I am doing a dance number with Gab Valenciano. So we might sing part of the song while dancing too,” said KC at the presscon held last Monday afternoon at Annabel’s resto along Tomas Morato Avenue.

KC said the musical will involve the use of various mediums—stage, theater, video, among others. “It is part video, part musical play, part movie so there are many elements involved,” said KC of this event that will precede the filmfest awards night set on December 27.

“So even if I am not a part of the Metro Manila Film Festival this year, I would still be a part of it in a different way,” said the National Ambassador against hunger of the UN World Food Programme, who recently had an audience with former US President Bill Clinton whom she described as “mabango at mabait.”

Right after the presscon last Monday, KC had a meeting with her managers Sandra Chavez and Shirley Kuan regarding her movie with Richard Gutierrez for GMA Films. With Jose Javier Reyes backing out of the project, they are scheduled to have a new meeting with GMA Films executives to talk about their plans with the veteran director now out of the project. He resigned because creative differences.

“We are going to meet to talk about developments in the film as of the moment kasi for now we don’t have a director,” KC explained.
