Marky Cieolo: A sad end to a promising career

- Ricky L. Calderon -

The showbiz world is grieving after the shocking death of young actor Marky Cielo, who died at the tender age of 20. So promising and so talented, Marky was the winner of Starstruck 3 and this became his passport to showbiz. That promise had been nipped in the bud with his untimely demise.

While everyone was ecstatic with the victory of Manny Pacquiao over Oscar dela Hoya last Sunday, there came the shocking news of Marky’s death. To lose someone you love dearly is really painful and for someone as young as Marky, words of “panghihinayang” were all over the different Internet sites where fans of Marky as well as other stars posted their messages of condolences to his bereaved family.

We cannot claim that we are close to Marky but we can say that we do admire him as a performer. We rooted for him during his Starstruck days and we rejoiced with his victory. He may not have stunning movie star looks but he has this innate charm that grows on you. Add to the fact that he’s good natured and is not arrogant. One thing more, he is proud of his roots (he’s an Igorot), that’s why he was loved by his kababayans in the Mountain Province who supported him when he joined Starstruck.

He was a good dancer and actor as well. He was certainly one of the most talented actors in his batch. Too bad we would no longer see him do his dance steps and portray roles on television because he has gone ahead of us. As what our elders used to tell us, “mas unang kinukuha ang mga mababait.” He may be shy, but he was one person who’d always break into a smile.

His last show was “La Lola” where he played the son of Jackie Lou Blanco, and the love interest of Lovi Poe. Now he’s gone and only God knows what made Him call Marky from this world and join Him in heaven. Marky will be missed by his family, his friends and his fans, and we will miss him too. He was one of the nicest persons we’ve met in showbiz and we’d like to extend our condolences to his family. May they find the strength to withstand the pain of Marky’s death. Let’s all pray for Marky’s soul and may God grant him eternal rest. Goodbye Marky.

Marky’s remains will be brought to the Mountain Province. It was his mother Mildred who decided to bring Marky’s body to the Mountain Province after lying in state for two days in their home in Antipolo City.
