John Estrada gets into “airport” trouble anew

SHOWBIZ DRIBBLE - Salve V. Asis -

Star Cinema’s “Supah Papalicious” didn’t quite make the grade, as far as the Cinema Evaluation Board is concerned. The board unanimously thumbed down the Vhong Navarro starrer. “It’s not funny at all,” sniped one reviewer. “It tries too hard to be slapstick, and fails miserably.”

Perhaps Star Cinema is counting on the drawing power of Vhong, Valerie Concepcion, and child sensation to make the movie a box-office hit, which opens in several theaters on Wednesday.

John Estrada had a run-in with police at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport last Thursday. John was about to board his flight for Kuala Lumpur when the x-ray machine detected suspicious-looking items in his hand-carried bag.

When the bag was inspected, it yielded nine live 9 mm rounds. Carrying guns or live ammunition on a plane is against the law.

The 34-year-old actor could not show any authorization for the ammunition and was briefly detained, and charges of illegal possession of ammunition were being readied against him.

It’s not the first time Estrada got in trouble in an airport. He was held at the General Santos airport when he joked that he had a bomb in his luggage. He was released only after he apologized to airport authorities.

Another “American Idol” contestant bites the dust. Amanda Overmyer was voted out last week, leaving 10 finalists in the popular talent search.

And guess what? Fil-Am Ramiele Malubay is still in. She made the cut outright and was not even on the bottom 3 of the bunch. Ramiele was not impressive with her rendition of another Lennon-McCartney classic, “I Should Have Known Better.” But none among the other contestants delivered a spectacular performance, either. Is the four-foot-eleven lass the next Jasmine Trias? Or will she outdo Jasmine and end up the 7th American Idol?

Heather Mills has been granted by a London court $48.6 million in divorce proceedings against her ex-husband, former Beatle Paul McCartney. At first glance that seems a fortune and more than enough to set Mills up for life. But it must have been a big disappointment for her, considering that she was asking for $250 million. That’s also small change for Sir Paul, who is reportedly worth almost a $1 billion.

The judge, Hugh Bennett, explained that Mills constantly lied to the court about money matters. “To some extent she is her own worst enemy. She has an explosive and volatile character,” the judge said.
