More festive events this February at Ayala Center Cebu
Post-festival drizzles of the Sinulog festival are all over Ayala Center Cebu, as shops are still on sale, newly relocated and renovated shops are now open and the exciting events for February kick off this weekend with the mischievous yet lovable trio, Alvin and the Chipmunks.
To cap the exciting events during the fiesta, Cebuanos were awed by the extravagant performances of the 5th Pahugyaw sa Sayaw contingents starting with Mantawi performers, whose dance was a tribute to the first ruler of Mandaue- Datu Lambusan.
Cute kids dressed in their Siloy costume (Black Shama - an endemic Bird in Alcoy) composed the Siloy festival entry, which is a dance performance presenting thanksgiving for the blessings and graces the Alcoyanons have received from Sta. Rosa de Lima.
On the other hand, the Palawod festival entry performers were in their shrimp costume and reenacted the vernacular meaning of Bantayan, which is to “go out to the sea and fish.” The Surigao festival entry showed a very dramatic performance with their torn and blood-splattered clothes and faces.
And finally, the national champion of the recent Aliwan Festival of Festivals Street Dancing Competition held in Manila, the Tribu Basakanon, rendered rhythmic dance movements, which were rooted from the embodiments of water currents that when described in Cebuano indicates “sulog.”
Capping the night was the fireworks display, while a Cebu-based alterna-pop S.R.O capped the night away.
