Still packing audiences in: “Apat Dapat, Dapat Apat” grosses P9M since opening day

Guess from whom Jinky Pacquiao buys her jewelry? Annabelle Rama. A source has told me that Ruffa Gutierrez’s mom is the suki of Pacman’s wife. No wonder Annabelle and Eddie Gutierrez were at Pacquiao’s fight last Sunday in Las Vegas. My source noticed the glittering diamonds Jinky wore after the bout.

Gold’s Gym in Alabang is where Toni Gonzaga and Sam Milby have begun shooting their new movie. The gym is owned by Mark Dayrit, brother of Cinema Evaluation Board Chair Christine Dayrit.

Toni plays a physical fitness trainer whose objective is to help Sam slim down from a scale-breaking 300 pounds. I wonder how they would add those excess poundage on Sam in the movie.

Christine tells me Gold’s Gym has an impressive roster of celebrity members which include Aga Muhlach, Iza Calzado, Christian Bautista, Dyan Castillejo, Regine Tolentino and Carlos Agassi. Recently they even had their own Walk of Fame in the gym. “They are our ambassadors of health and fitness because they are the fittest celebrity members who undergo the ultimate fitness experience at Gold’s,” says Mark Dayrit. “Their stars are a reminder that, indeed, health is wealth. No matter how hectic one’s schedule is, it always pays to exercise to keep oneself fit and firm.”

Mark says Gold’s Gym is also the training ground of young and senior executives and CEOs who condition their bodies first before hitting their boardroom. The 40-year-old Gold’s has 650 gyms worldwide with 3 million members, adds Christine Dayrit. It has the best trainers for cardiovascular training, muscle conditioning, boxing, stretching, flexibility, sports-specific programs fit for basketball, tennis, badminton, and golf among others. Gold’s Gym has the most number of group exercises classes like belly dancing, karaoke spin, punch and pump, jazz tease, streetdance, hiphop, boot camp, spinning, bench, yoga, tai chi, core balance, Pilates matwork, hilo and cardio kickboxing, Christine says.

Even the country’s national teams train in Gold’s Gym as part of a tie-up with the Philippine Olympic Committee and the Philippine Sports Commission, according to Mark.

“Apat Dapat, Dapat Apat” is still packing them in. I’m not surprised. The film, which stars Rufa Mae Quinto, Eugene Domingo, Pokwang and Candy Pangilinan and directed by Wenn Deramas, is really wacky. And I’m sure OFWs in Hong Kong can relate to the film. Pokwang told me they filmed in HK without a permit! I find that hard to believe, because they took their time filming in Hong Kong. And there were many scenes shot outdoors. Surely the authorities would have asked if they had the necessary documents.

“Apat Dapat” has reportedly grossed P9 million since it opened last Wednesday.

As of last week, the Cinema Evaluation Board has reviewed 28 Filipino films. Out of that number, 24 had been given tax rebates. Five merited a full rebate.

The board has reviewed more films this year so far than it did last year. In 2006 only two films got a full rebate. I think it’s a sign that the local cinema is slowly emerging from the doldrums.

After making an impassioned plea to win back custody of her two young sons, Britney Spears last week won permission to spend one night a week with them.

As usual, the 25-year-old singer had the media in a frenzy when she arrived at court in jeans, a black satin top and sunglasses. She lost custody of Sean Preston, 2, and Jayden James, 1, last week after failing to complete court-ordered drug and alcohol testing.

The court had awarded custody of the kids to Spears’ ex, Kevin Federline. She could only have supervised daytime visits with them.

The couple split a year ago after two years of marriage. Since then Spears’ career has nosedived, and she has had several brushes with the law for substance and alcohol abuse. She has been in and out of rehab.
