Regine vs. Pia:Singer still sore at the ‘Showbiz Central’ host

SHOWBIZ DRIBBLE - Salve V. Asis -

My source tells me that until now Regine Velasquez is still sore at Pia Guanio, the reason why Regine refuses to return as a guest in “Showbiz Central.”

It all began when Regine guested in the show to promote her movie with Piolo Pascual, “Paano Kita Iibigin.” Pia brought up the subject of Regine and Ogie, despite an agreement before the airing of the interview that the topic is taboo. Right after the interview, Asia’s Songbird reportedly left in a huff.

But is that the real reason for Regine’s grudge? I recall a time when Ogie had openly declared his crush for Pia. He and Regine were already on at the time he said that, although they were trying to keep things under wraps. Could it be that Regine still harbors a deep-seated jealousy of Pia? I don’t see why she should, knowing fully well that Pia already has her Vic Sotto.

As I write this, Sarah Geronimo is just a few hours away from her second major concert at the Araneta Coliseum, “Sarah Geronimo in Motion.” I’m sure she won’t disappoint the fans that will pack the Big Dome Saturday night to see the transformation of their idol from Teen Princess to glamour woman.

Behind the metamorphosis is an A-team of fashion and beauty experts.

“Sarah Geronimo in Motion” showcases the fabulous outfits created by Rajo Laurel, Edwin Ocampo and Rhett Eala, the make-up magic of Juan Sarte and hairstyle artistry of Jing Monis.

Rajo has told a showbiz writer he wanted a look that would “veer away from the teenager that we see Sunday after Sunday in her musical variety show. The designer has lined up “a whole new spectrum of outfits that will project another level of maturity, yet keeping the fun, and free-spirited elements that truly define her.”

Guesting at the concert are Gary Valenciano, Jericho Rosales, Sam Milby, Mark Bautista, John Pratts, Louie Ocampo and AiAi delas Alas. I have no doubt the show is going to be a big success.

Sarah will follow up her Big Dome gig with a birthday concert at the Clark Expo in Pampanga on July 25.

“Sarah Geronimo in Motion” was just one of the big projects packaged for Sarah this year. She will be releasing her new album, titled Taking Flight. She’ll start a new soap opera at ABS-CBN with Jericho Rosales, which is expected to be bigger than last year’s blockbuster, Bituing Walang Ningning. Then there’s her launching movie which will pair her with John Lloyd Cruz.

Sarah has proven herself to be the total performer many times over. Aside from her TV shows, she’s a successful commercial endorser. Last December she was voted the Most Popular Household Favorite on Philippine Television by the Anak TV Seal. Singing engagements not only here but abroad have made her an international celebrity.

Last week, the lawyer of Claudine Barretto and Raymart Santiago admitted that the couple had invested in FrancSwiss, which has been exposed as a pyramiding scam on the Internet.

The lawyer, however, was quick to point out that Claudine and Raymart were themselves victims and that they never received a return on their investment.

The lawyer did not say who recruited the couple or how much they invested.

The alleged financial adviser of FrancSwiss, who has been arrested by the National Bureau of Investigation, has implicated other celebrities in the scam, including Korina Sanchez and former basketball player Bonnel Balingit.

Evan Almighty, the sequel to Bruce Almighty that starred funny man Jim Carrey, may not make it to theaters in Malaysia. The reason: the influential Muslim Consumers Association are calling for a ban on the movie because it is insulting to Islam.

Evan Almighty takes off from the biblical story of Noah’s ark. Steve Carell plays a newly-elected congressman ordered by God to build an ark.

“The movie refers to the big flood during the time of Prophet Noah, but this has been turned into a comedy which is insulting to Islam,” the head of the association was quoted as saying. “Featuring a human being as God in the movie is also against Islam.”

The movie is scheduled for screening in Malaysian cinemas from August 23.

It’s not the first time a foreign film has fuelled religious protest in Malaysia. The country’s censors have banned from public screening of “Brokeback Mountain” and “The Passion of the Christ,” both critically acclaimed films.
