‘Surf’s up’ trailer preems with ‘Spider-Man 3’ May 1

-
The new trailer of Sony Pictures Animation’s eagerly awaited "Surf’s Up," a rollicking animated action-comedy that delves behind the scenes of the high-octane world of competitive surfing penguins, will premiere in Philippine theaters as an added attraction to "Spider-Man 3" which opens May 1.

From the director of Disney’s "Tarzan" and co-director of Pixar’s "Toy Story 2," "Surf’s Up" profiles teenage Rockhopper penguin Cody Maverick (rising box-office star Shia LaBeouf), an up-and-coming surfer, as he enters his first pro competition. Followed by a camera crew to document his experiences, Cody leaves his family and home in Shiverpool, Antarctica to travel to Pen Gu Island for the Big Z Memorial Surf Off.  Along the way, Cody meets surf nut Chicken Joe (Jon Heder), famous surf promoter Reggie Belafonte (James Woods), surf talent scout Mikey Abromowitz (Mario Cantone), and spirited lifeguard Lani Aliikai (Zooey Deschanel), all of whom recognize Cody’s passion for surfing, even if it’s a bit misguided at times.  Cody believes that winning will bring him the admiration and respect he desires, but when he unexpectedly comes face-to-face with a washed-up old surfer (Jeff Bridges), Cody begins to find his own way, and discovers that a true winner isn’t always the one who comes in first.

Columbia Pictures’ "Spider-Man 3" reunites Tobey Maguire, Kirsten Dunst and director Sam Raimi from the first two blockbuster adventures for a web of excitement that will transport Philippine audiences to thrilling new heights starting on May 1, Labor Day – three full days ahead of the film’s U.S. opening.

In "Spider-Man 3," based on the legendary Marvel Comics series, Peter Parker has finally managed to strike a balance between his devotion to M.J. and his duties as a superhero. But there is a storm brewing on the horizon.  When his Spider-Man suit suddenly changes, turning jet-black and enhancing his powers, it transforms Peter as well.  Under the influence of the suit, Peter becomes prideful and overconfident and he begins to neglect the ones he cares about the most.

As two of the most-feared villains yet, Sandman and Venom (Thomas Haden Church, Topher Grace respectively) gather unparalleled power and a thirst for retribution, Peter’s greatest battle is the one within himself.  Spider-Man will need to rediscover the compassion that makes him who he is: a hero.
