Vhong Navarro: The New Box Office King?

- Ricky L. Calderon -
Dancer-turned-comedian Vhong Navarro couldn't ex-plain how he felt when he heard that his movie "D'Anothers" was doing very well at the box office. According to Star Cinema people who produced the movie, "D' Anothers" earned P10 million on its first day of showing last Wednesday. Vhong was at the taping of his TV show "Yes, Yes Show" when he heard the news straight from Star Cinema people.

The comedian hardly had sleep since he came back from the United States. He plunged back into work since coming home, including doing some more promo for "D'Anothers" which pairs him with Toni Gonzaga and reunites him with Bb. Joyce Bernal who also directed his hit movie "Mr. Suave."

If the strong showing of the movie continues till the weekend, Vhong might yet emerge as a potential contender for the box office king title. Most of the congratulatory messages that Vhong received from his friends jokingly referred to him as the new box office king.

Vhong talked personally to his co-stars namely Toni Gonzaga, Joross Gamboa, Roxanne Guinoo and John Prats and director Joyce Bernal to tell them the good news.

The strong box office performance of "D' Anothers" could be compared to the record-breaking feats of past Star Cinema movies like "Feng Shui" and "Milan."

Inspired by the box office success of Vhong's movie, Star Cinema is now planning the follow-up vehicle for the dancer-comedian. Congratulations Vhong!

Although he didn't emerge as the Star Circle National Teen Quest grand prize winner, Tarlac native Aaron Villaflor is happy with the way things are. His exposure on "SCQ" gave him a regular stint in the sitcom "OK Fine" where he gets to trade punchlines with Aga Muhlach and Bayani Agbayani - a dream come true for the aspiring comedian. Aaron is also seen performing regularly with the SCQ 8 Teens on "Fanatic All-Star." Aaron is also an endorser for Maxipeel and soon, he will be doing another commercial for a well-known food brand.

He has proven his worth as a promising young actor with the good reviews he got for his performance in the Sandara Park-Hero Angeles movie "Can This Be Love?" where he impressed not only director Jose Javier Reyes but the audience as well.

Aaron just turned 16 last July 5 and he's very happy with the way his career is progressing. "But I know I need to improve my craft a lot, but I am willing to work hard to be the best that I can be," said the young actor.

Gary Valenciano's major concert for this year, which was originally scheduled to be held at the Araneta Coliseum on August 6, has been reset to September 2. The production team behind the concert wants more time to prepare for the concert since the same people were involved in the ABS-CBN Kapamilya Caravan in the US and they were unable to start preparing for the event that will have Mr. Pure Energy performing with a philharmonic orchestra.

Besides, Mr. Ryan Cayabyab, the concert's musical director, also requested that the concert be rescheduled. He also has a busy schedule and work has definitely piled up so much so that Mr. C has to attend to more pressing matters, and then devote his time for Gary's concert titled "Symphony of the Heart" set on September 2 at the Big Dome in Quezon City.
