Liquor maker bets on experiential marketing
CEBU, Philippines — Ginebra San Miguel Inc. (GSMI) is expanding its experiential marketing strategy as the Philippines’ culture of celebration continues to underpin consumer spending, rolling out a month-long nationwide campaign aimed at strengthening brand engagement among younger drinkers while reinforcing its leadership in the gin market.
The liquor maker transformed this year’s World Gin Day into “Ginuman X,” staging a series of festival-style events across Batangas, Cebu, Antipolo and Cagayan de Oro that combined live music, cocktail experiences and interactive brand activities in a bid to position gin as a drink that resonates with both Gen Z and millennial consumers.
The campaign comes as household consumption remains the Philippine economy’s largest growth engine.
Based on the latest record from the Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA) , Household Final Consumption Expenditure—the biggest component of gross domestic product—expanded 3 percent in the first quarter of 2026, with spending on restaurants and hotels among the fastest-growing categories, highlighting Filipinos’ continued willingness to spend on dining, entertainment and social experiences despite a moderating economic environment.
For consumer companies, celebrations remain a key demand driver. PSA classifies spending on alcoholic beverages and special family occasions as distinct components of household expenditure, reflecting the enduring role of social gatherings, festivals and milestone celebrations in Filipino consumption patterns.
Against that backdrop, GSMI is shifting beyond traditional concert sponsorships toward immersive consumer experiences designed to deepen brand loyalty.
“Through Ginuman X, we created a more immersive experience that celebrates not only the versatility and quality of gin, but also the spirit of togetherness that has always defined the Ginebra brand,” GSMI Marketing Manager Ron Molina said. “It is our way of showing that gin continues to bring people together across generations.”
The initiative builds on more than a decade of World Gin Day celebrations led by GSMI, which introduced the observance in the Asia-Pacific region in 2014 during the 180th anniversary of its flagship Ginebra San Miguel brand. Since then, the company has expanded the campaign through programs such as the One Ginebra Nation Tour, the “Gin Is In” campaign and last year’s “Your World of Gin Experience.”
This year’s edition sought to broaden its appeal through localized events featuring Original Pilipino Music (OPM) artists, cocktail demonstrations, games, exclusive merchandise and interactive activities showcasing the versatility of Ginebra’s product portfolio.
For Paolo Jose “Tooper” Tupaz, GSMI Group Product Manager, the campaign reflects changing consumer preferences, with younger Filipinos increasingly seeking experiences rather than conventional promotional events.
“Ginuman X is our biggest and most immersive World Gin Month celebration yet,” Tupaz said. “We created an experience where people don’t simply attend an event—they become part of it, while keeping alive the Filipino spirit of tagayan, friendship and community.”
The campaign also incorporated a social impact component, with part of the proceeds earmarked for the San Miguel Foundation to support community programs.
GSMI, a unit of San Miguel Corp., produces Ginebra San Miguel, recognized as the world’s best-selling gin, alongside a portfolio of spirits that includes GSM Blue flavored gin variants, Archangel Reserve Premium Dry Gin, Antonov Vodka, Primera Light Brandy, Vino Kulafu Chinese wine and Vamos Tequila Gold.
As competition intensifies across the country’s alcoholic beverage market, companies are increasingly investing in experiential marketing to capture discretionary spending, betting that shared experiences and community-driven events can translate into stronger brand affinity and repeat purchases in one of Southeast Asia’s most consumption-driven economies.
