Tuition grant aims to make global learning more accessible in Cebu

CEBU, Philippines — CIE British School is widening access to international education for Filipino students through a tuition assistance program, as the institution seeks to strengthen Cebu’s position as a regional hub for globally recognized learning.

The school launched its Filipino National Grant, which provides tuition assistance to qualified Filipino students, lowering the cost of enrolling in its internationally benchmarked academic programs.

The initiative comes as Cebu continues to build its reputation as an education destination in the Visayas, attracting families seeking international curricula without sending children abroad.

“For many Filipino families, international education has been viewed as an aspiration that is often beyond reach,” CIE Global Colleges President and Chief Executive Officer Prof. Nelia Cruz Sarcol said. “The Filipino National Grant reflects our commitment to making internationally recognized education more attainable while strengthening Cebu’s role as a destination for global learning.”

Founded in 1983, CIE British School was the first Cambridge International School in the Philippines. It operates campuses in Cebu, Makati and Tacloban, offering programs from Early Years through Cambridge Advanced (A Levels).

The school said the grant is designed to give more Filipino students access to internationally recognized education while reducing the financial burden typically associated with private international schools.

CIE follows the Cambridge International curriculum, with programs focused on critical thinking, leadership, creativity and collaborative learning. The school said its approach aims to prepare students for higher education and careers in an increasingly global economy.

The institution is a member of the Council of British International Schools (COBIS) and the European Council of International Schools (ECIS), organizations that promote international standards in education.

According to Sarcol, expanding access to internationally recognized education supports the development of globally competitive Filipino graduates while reinforcing Cebu’s growing role as one of the country’s centers for international learning.
