Philippines boosts tourism influence with PATA board seat

CEBU, Philippines — The Philippines gained a stronger voice in regional tourism policymaking after Maria Paz Alberto was elected to the Executive Board of Pacific Asia Travel Association (PATA), a move industry leaders said could bolster the country’s influence in shaping Asia-Pacific travel initiatives.
Alberto’s appointment gives the Philippines representation in one of the world’s largest tourism organizations at a time when governments and industry players across the region are focusing on sustainable growth, connectivity and post-pandemic travel recovery.
Local tourism stakeholders said the election also provides the Philippines with a platform to advance its interests in regional tourism discussions, including destination promotion, aviation connectivity and industry competitiveness.
Alberto, who also serves as president of the Philippines IATA Agents Travel Association, has spent more than four decades in the travel industry, advocating for the professionalization of travel agencies and stronger global positioning for Philippine tourism enterprises.
She also heads Ark Travel Express, a Philippine-based travel agency with operations in the international travel market.
Her election follows a strong year for the PATA Philippines Chapter, which was recognized as “Best Chapter” in 2025 for its performance in membership engagement, sustainable tourism programs and destination marketing initiatives.
As part of the Executive Board, Alberto is expected to participate in policy discussions involving regional tourism development, international cooperation and sustainable travel growth across the Asia-Pacific.
“This is a big victory for the Philippines, bringing our nation to the world,” Alberto said.
