PDIC: Insured deposits hit P5.2 trillion in 2025

CEBU, Philippines — Insured deposits in the Philippine banking system climbed sharply in 2025, underscoring stronger depositor protection following a policy shift that doubled coverage limits.

The Philippine Deposit Insurance Corporation (PDIC) said insured deposits reached P5.2 trillion by end-2025, up 40.9 percent from P3.7 trillion a year earlier. The increase reflects both sustained confidence in the banking sector and the expanded scope of deposit insurance.

A key driver was the rise in the maximum deposit insurance coverage (MDIC) to P1 million from P500,000, effective March 15, 2025. The adjustment accounted for P1.3 trillion, or about 86 percent of the total increase in insured deposits, as a larger share of savings became fully covered under the state guarantee.

The number of fully insured accounts rose to 169.2 million as of December, up 20.9 percent from 140 million in 2024. These accounts now represent 98.8 percent of total deposit accounts nationwide, highlighting the breadth of coverage, particularly among retail savers.

Overall deposit growth remained steady across the Philippines banking system, with total domestic deposits reaching P21.7 trillion, up 7.1 percent year-on-year. Individual depositors contributed the bulk of the increase, accounting for P812.1 billion, or 56.4 percent, followed by private corporations at P334.8 billion, or 23.2 percent.
