CBRT enhances connectivity of Cebu’s key commercial hubs

CEBU, Philippines — The launch of the Cebu Bus Rapid Transit (CBRT) system is seen to enhance connectivity between major commercial districts, including Il Corso and Cebu IT Park, as the city accelerates efforts to modernize urban mobility.

The CBRT began introductory operations on March 13, running along Cebu City’s primary north–south corridor from the South Road Properties (SRP) to Cebu IT Park via Natalio Bacalso Avenue, Osmeña Boulevard and N. Escario Street.

The system is designed to move passengers at an average speed of about 25 kilometers per hour, cutting travel time between the endpoints to roughly 35 to 40 minutes—offering a more predictable alternative to conventional road transport.

The transit line is expected to serve tens of thousands of commuters daily, improving access to employment centers and commercial zones while easing congestion along one of the city’s busiest routes.

For Filinvest Land Inc. (FLI), which anchors developments at the southern end of the corridor, the new transport link is expected as a catalyst for economic activity. The improved route connects residential communities in southern Cebu, including nearby Talisay, directly to business districts, potentially widening the labor pool and supporting workforce mobility.

“The strength of a city lies in how well it connects people to opportunity,” said Tristan Las Marias, president and chief executive officer of Filinvest Land.

“Initiatives that improve access between communities and economic centers help support local progress and create environments where people can live, work and thrive,” he said.

At the route’s southern gateway is Il Corso, the company’s waterfront retail development positioned as an open-air lifestyle destination along Cebu’s coastline. The project has evolved into a leisure and dining hub, drawing both residents and visitors and benefiting from increased accessibility under the new transport system.

The CBRT rollout forms part of broader efforts by the Cebu City government to upgrade public transportation infrastructure, with private sector developers such as Filinvest aligning projects to capitalize on improved connectivity. Enhanced transit access is expected to support property values, retail foot traffic and business expansion across the corridor.

Filinvest Land, the property arm of Filinvest Development Corp., has more than 280 projects nationwide spanning residential communities, office developments, mixed-use estates and industrial parks, positioning itself to benefit from infrastructure-led urban growth.
