Cebu tourism continues to thrive after quake
CEBU, Philippines — Cebu’s tourism and air travel sectors remain fully operational following a recent earthquake that affected parts of northern Cebu, with officials assuring travelers that the province continues to be a safe and welcoming destination.
The Mactan-Cebu International Airport (MCIA) reported normal flight operations, with all runways and facilities cleared after inspection.
While there has been a minor dip in domestic passenger traffic—mostly from Manila—airport officials attributed this to misleading reports rather than any operational disruption.
“We want to assure everyone that Cebu’s airport operations at MCIA remain safe and fully functional. Our facilities have been thoroughly inspected and cleared, and flights continue as scheduled,” said Athanasios Titonis, CEO of Aboitiz InfraCapital Cebu Airport Corporation in a statement.
“Passenger safety is always our top priority, and we invite travelers to continue exploring Cebu with confidence—the island is safe, vibrant, and very much open for tourism.”
All recently announced international routes—including Kuala Lumpur, Macau, Brisbane, and Hanoi—are proceeding as planned.
New domestic routes to El Nido, Calbayog, and Siquijor are also on track, with some already operational this week.
Mactan-Cebu International Airport Authority (MCIAA) General Manager Julius G. Neri Jr. said airport operations continue at full capacity.
“We immediately implemented standard safety protocols to ensure that both our passengers and airport personnel are secure and well-assisted,” Neri said. “Cebu remains a resilient destination—ready to welcome travelers with confidence.”
Officials stressed that Cebu’s tourism infrastructure—from hotels and resorts to transportation and attractions—remains fully functional, reinforcing the province’s reputation as one of the Philippines’ leading gateways and leisure destinations.
“Cebu is safe, open, and ready to welcome the world,” the statement said.
