Artificial not Infinite

BUSINESS AFTER BUSINESS - Romelinda Garces - The Freeman

The growing aptitude for Artificial Intelligence (AI) is steered by government’s need to remain globally competitive for jobs and contracts. The appeal is for the industries to share their need for particular AI technologies so that education and training can be skewed to address that need. Cooperation therefore is coveted to lessen the gap and the mystery or fear of AI replacing human labor.

We have to admit that AI is here. It is already part of our lives and is here to stay. Likewise we also have to accept that nothing can replace the human genius and touch.

The young navigate social media and all sorts of applications as a natural digital native.

Those of us in my generation who are not as adept must be savvy in the softer skills of harnessing talents and maximizing the available AI professionals. It is no use to waste time trying to learn the nitty gritty of all the accessible aps and get bogged down in the action when there are qualified people who can accelerate the work.

With the advancement of technology some of us get stuck in the preparation rather than substance. Author Rolf Dobelli in his book on The Art of a Good Life, shares that a lot of time is wasted in preparing a powerpoint presentation especially when it is not one’s core skill. So instead of grueling over the tech, energies can be spent more on the substance that is more foolproof, it is best to leave the form to the experts who can fashion a more appealing package.

Fear of AI substitution to warm bodies can be circumvented by awareness of its limits and the strengthening of the human capabilities for human prowess is natural, intrinsic, irreplaceable. AI as it is, is simply a tool we can use.

AI is a creation of man. Man is a creation of God. The longevity of an invention depends on the inventor. And our creator is infinite.
