Best laid plans
Now we hear it from all the winners of the recent election. All of them promising programs we hope they can fulfill in their term. There is still a long way to go and I pray that the bureaucracy of our system in government will not hamper the realization of the good programs our new leaders have laid before us.
The improved medical services is like a salve to the ear of those who have long prayed for proper and immediate medical care. In Mandaue City, the creation of a modernized public dialysis center comes like a relief to those who have to undergo frequent dialysis treatment. That is over and above the building of a hospital with more than 200-room capacity.
The desire to reduce business processes to encourage business investment is good news. In all cities, this seems to be the clamor. And we look forward to further improvement in our business processes. The quicker processing of building permits, fire clearances and the like that usually get business expansions caught in penalties because of delayed inspections. Perhaps the number of inspectors can be increased so that there will be speedier reviews. We also hope that the prices of occupancy permits will remain stable and not fluctuate based on who processes. Whatever is legitimate and reasonable must be followed both for proper recording, and progress of our government’s coffers that will be plowed back to further infra improvements.
I keep my hopes high in the best laid plans of our leaders now. They will definitely need the cooperation of the citizens in compliance and patience. To comply means to generate the needed requirements and submit before deadlines. Patience will then be expected for the waiting time which again, hopefully will be standard. Like if it will take them three days to review, then three days it is. A month-long wait opens room for concern. To be fair, there definitely is a pile that needs to be processed, backlogs perhaps from simultaneous projects. Considering the limited staff who have the technical expertise, some projects may take longer to review. It would also not be fair to blame everything on a government office if the compliance to requirements from the applicant is incomplete.
With the changes we are experiencing and the quiet but impactful activism in social media, I believe people are more vigilant and conscious of irregularities. I continue to have faith in the people in government with good intentions where it is utmost in their heart to serve. Oh yes, there are still many of them. Maybe this is the time to weed out the 15/30 undesirables so we can judiciously use the resources of our country for the better and greater advancement of all this best laid plans.
God bless our land!
