Cebu Pacific shifts to 100 percent renewable energy in key facilities

CEBU, Philippines — Leading the Philippine aviation industry’s push for renewable energy (RE) adoption, Cebu Pacific (CEB) announced that it is implementing 100 percent RE consumption in its two major facilities.

“This shift to clean energy is an important component of further reducing our emissions, particularly those generated from the use of electricity in our buildings and facilities,” said Felix Lopez, CEB Chief Human Resources Officer.

The Gokongwei-led carrier has partnered with ACEN Renewable Energy Solutions (ACEN RES), one of Asia-Pacific’s fastest-growing energy platforms.

“Partnering with ACEN allows us to take advantage of the benefits of the Department of Energy’s [DOE] Green Energy Option Program, including cost savings for Cebu Pacific and supporting the country’s goal to boost renewable energy supply,” Lopez added.

CEB has transitioned its APlus and AirJuan buildings to be powered entirely by renewable energy. These buildings are essential to CEB’s daily operations, which include housing maintenance, ground handling, and catering operations.

According to Lopez, shifting these facilities to renewable energy complements the airline’s broader decarbonization strategy. This strategy includes transitioning to a modern and fuel-efficient all-NEO fleet, implementing fuel-efficient practices, optimizing flight routes, and electrifying its ground support equipment.

“We are delighted to partner with Cebu Pacific to support their commitment to sustainable aviation. By providing renewable energy solutions, we are enabling Cebu Pacific to reduce its carbon emissions and operate more efficiently,” said Sheila Mina, ACEN RES Vice President and Head of Account Management.

Mina added that the partnership aligns with ACEN RES’ mission of making renewable energy accessible to businesses across the Philippines.
