Minglanilla gives 2-way radios to schools
CEBU, Philippines — The local government unit of Minglanilla has distributed two-way radios to 26 schools in the town to have easy access to communication in times of emergency.
Mayor Rajiv Enad led the turnover of the communication devices to the school heads from Minglanilla School Districts 1 and 2.
The turnover was done through the LGU’s Municipal Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (MDRRMO) with its head, Myrrha Daven, and attended by Municipal Administrator, Atty. Junrie Bragat, and Chief of Staff Roland Lastimosa.
Enad said the radio system is one way for the schools to contact the MDRRMMO, MitCom and the taskforce in Minglanilla in case of emergencies and disasters even without the cellphone signals.
“Kung naay mga problema, calamity or disasters sama sa bagyo, with or without cellphone signal maka contact mo sa LGU og dali mo maatiman labi na nga mga bata vulnerable kaayo. Nakat-on gyud ta pag Odette,” Enad said during the turnover.
When typhoon Odette hit Cebu last year, one of the problems that were experienced were the cellphone signals that shut down and took some days and even weeks to get back to normal affecting the relief efforts by the LGUs and communication to loved ones. — GMR (FREEMAN)
