Accenture upskills workforce in digital pivot

TAGUIG CITY, Philippines — Accenture Philippines, one of the largest technology and outsourcing firms operating in Cebu, will continue to embrace technological advancements as it looks to pivot into an innovation-led transformation.

Country managing director Lito Tayag said the digital revolution has disrupted business with the rise of artificial intelligence (AI) and automation, such that the technology company is leading its pivot into the “new”.

“We are transforming our business based on what is happening to the digital transformation,” Tayag told journalists at a press briefing in Bonifacio Global City.  This digital transformation, he added, covers interactivity, mobility, analytics, cloud and security.

Tayag said digital disruptions, such as AI, are impacting businesses and the ways they operate.

“All these digital disruptions are impacting organizations and changing the way their products and services are delivered to their clients,” the executive said.

Looking into this, he said the technology company is heading to an innovation-led transformation, as the information technology and business process outsourcing (IT-BPO) industry is facing threats from the rise of automation.

Tayag reiterated the need to “upskill” the workforce in the industry to keep up with the new technologies, including AI.

“Artificial intelligence is one of the technologies that are disrupting businesses and are changing the way the world works and lives,” he said.

“We focus on our people in terms of upskilling that would include new technologies including AI,” he added.

Tayag likewise pointed out that with technological disruptors calling for companies to upscale their people, Accenture invested over two million hours in training its people as of last year.

Accenture, which has a workforce of about 50,000 in the Philippines, has operations in Metro Manila, Cebu, and Ilocos region.

The company’s Cebu Delivery Center spreads across four facilities in Pioneer House, Cybergate, ebloc 2 and ebloc 3.
