CEBU, Philippines — Filipino companies are encouraged to take advantage of the huge export potential in Canada and take part in the upcoming trade mission organized by the Canadian Chamber of Commerce of the Philippines (CanCham).

CanCham president Julian Payne was in Cebu yesterday to invite Cebuano businesses interested in tapping Canada as market for goods or explore opportunities of sourcing materials and know the Canadian market by participating in the 6th trade mission slated this coming October 20 to 28, 2018.

Payne announced that the outbound trade mission to Canada will cover the cities of Toronto and Ottawa.

The delegation will focus on agri-biz, food, and related technologies.

“The objective of this mission is to introduce delegates who want to learn about opportunities and market in Canada as well as how business is conducted there,” said Payne.

According to Payne, delegates can visit the Grocery Innovations Canada (GIC), a trade show organized by the Canadian Federation of Independent Grocers (CFIG).

GIC is Canada’s annual premier and must attend B2B grocery and specialty food show.

Another important event that the delegation will participate is the 9th Food Regulatory and Quality Assurance Summit, the country’s annual event featuring industry speakers, interactive panel sessions and networking breaks to discuss in detail the Canadian regulatory landscape.

Payne stressed that this food regulatory summit is important for Filipino businesses, as it attracts agri-business leaders from coast-to-coast and federal, provincial and local public health authorities as well as industry suppliers, vendors, and consultants.

In Toronto, the Trade Mission will also meet with the Ontario Ministry of Economic Development, Job Creation & Trade, Toronto Board of Trade, and Canadian Association of Importers and Exporters among others. In Ottawa, the Trade Mission will also meet with Canada’s Trade Facilitation Office, Export Development Canada, and the Philippine Embassy.

According to Payne, this is another opportunity Filipino traders to connect with the Canadian market, as Philippines’ export to Canada is still low despite its potential.
