Revisiting the main business
The increasing number of affordable spas and massage clinics is indicative of the lifestyle we have been sporting. More and more home massage services are offered and dial- a-spa modes are now convenient though you must be cautious in allowing a stranger into your home. This business thrives in a world of constant demands to make more of the material.
The prevalence of coffee shops and cozy tea nooks equally reveal how people these days try to mix business with pleasure. We search for the right ambiance or brew or comfort food as a take off pad or cushion for what could be a bleary, dragging and utterly tedious negotiation as we pursue our business.
As of late my world has been crowded with airport cues, flight delays, loooong stretches in the cold steel benches of the pre-departure areas that make me realize that those benches were made for travelers who may not even warm the seat before their flight is called. Now the chairs are passé with the hours one has to endure, not to mention the exercises that require weight lifting and brisk walking as one has to move from one boarding gate to another to take the flight.
Travel is fun if one can take that leisurely pace and not be harried over ominous traffic lanes that feed your anxiety of being left by the plane. Gone are those days when the distance is met by free roads and flight attendants read their script with empathy. Now, the stewards or stewardesses read their lines with such speed one has the feeling of being hassled. Another extreme is when the attendant just mumbles slowly to herself or himself the safety instructions they know by rote.
The hazards of a hectic life! But this is the way it is now. Computers, cellphones and most of technology necessitates speed, and speed produces impatience and impatience, stress.
So how does one relax these days? We strive to cope through massage dates, staycations and blocking off weekends just for sleep. Though sometimes when one's body is so used to the grind, even sleep becomes elusive and sometimes we resort to taking sleeping tablets or antihistamines to allow our bodies to succumb to sleep. We destroy natural processes our bodies normally perform because of a hectic lifestyle. Sad.
We must never forget that in our pursuit of business, our main Business After Business is our health, our dispositions the soundness of our spirits.
I find rest in the presence of the Lord among my prayer group mates. It is always rejuvenating to seek energy from God. And no matter how fast the pace of life is the constancy of our Lord anchors us in the spa of His love and care, in the sweet coffee conversations with Him and His word, and the soothing and gentle breeze from His breath that provides us that restful sleep so we can wake up to another day of grace and go ahead with His business.
This is where workers are few, and the field is wide. Let's revisit the main business.
