MEZ2 to roll out eShuttle transport service

Ehda Dagooc - The Freeman

CEBU, Philippines – The Mactan Export Zone (MEZ2) announced to roll out an entire fleet of environment-friendly electric-powered vehicles this quarter.

The 63-hectare economic zone, developed by Aboitizland Inc., is working with Cebuano-owned Ezware IT Computing Solutions, to launch its eShuttle public transport system, under the Global Electric Transport (GET) brand.

MEZ2 zone manager III Rufino R.Z. San Juan IV said this initiative is part of Aboitizland’s advocacy to build sustainable communities.

San Juan said the eShuttle system will have zero-emission electric vehicles that will provide cheaper and convenient shuttle service available on a 24/7 basis within MEZ2.

Being both environmentally-friendly and pocket-friendly, the eShuttle, according to San Juan is a welcome development that will further enhance the ecozone's investor-and work-friendly atmosphere.

San Juan added that MEZ2 community is proud that it is so far the first economic zone in the country to host an eco-friendly shuttle service.

The eShuttle will serve the over 16,000 workers within the zone round the clock, said EzWare president Josephus Uy Dy.

The eShuttle is a 20-seater, zero-emission vehicle powered by rechargeable lithium ion batteries. The eShuttles are monitored in real time from a command center that optimizes all aspects of fleet management, including tracking, maintenance, and safety.

The system also offered by Ezware, provides convenient payment solution using prepaid cards that commuters can purchase and reload at designated ticketing booths.

Each eShuttle is also equipped with GPS and vehicle telemetry for real time tracking.

The project is made possible with the support and endorsement of the Philippine Economic Zone Authority (PEZA) officials led by director general Lilia De Lima.

Introducing the eShuttle transport system is just one of AboitizLand's efforts to seriously address climate change, as it is also seen to help Filipino people in general, to make transport more convenient and affordable, said MEZ2 industrial business unit head Terrie Bernas-Abad. (FREEMAN)
