Coffee supply shortage in local fastfood chain?

Carlo S. Lorenciana - The Freeman

CEBU, Philippines - Fastfood consumers may have recently found themselves wondering why there seems to be unavailability of brewed coffee in some stores of a fastfood chain in Cebu City.

Some Cebu branches of Jollibee Foods Corporation have not been serving brewed coffee to customers in recent weeks although they still offer instant coffee sachets to diners.

This has left some concerned customers asking why it has happened so.

Nelson Judaya, the company’s marketing manager for Visayas, explained to The FREEMAN that this is the first time that they have been notified of the absence of the said product in some of their branches.

The manager however, said that as of now he could not readily confirm on the true reason of the situation, believing though that the problem is certainly not connected to the “lack of stocks” of such beverage.

He just gave the presumption that the branches not currently offering coffee may have failed to order ingredients for the product.

Judaya has assured patrons specifically the coffee-drinking consumers that their “brewed coffee” has not been taken out from their menu--and will never be--saying it is an “important commodity” especially for morning diners.

He also noted that after learning this report, they are set to discuss the matter with the firm’s operations division to clarify the real cause of the situation.

They will also talk to managers of Jollibee branches who have not been offering the product.

On another note, a company area manager, who asked for anonymity, claimed that there have been changes recently in their delivery system but asked not to expound on this further.

Furthermore, the marketing official said that they are going to handle the situation step-by-step and reassured fast food diners that the product will be available in those identified branches as soon as possible.

The FREEMAN visited yesterday morning two branches of the fast food store in Cebu’s downtown area and ordered for coffee but the staff said they did not have the beverage available at that time. (FREEMAN)
