CEBU, Philippines - Global Business Power subsidiaries, Cebu Energy Development Corporation and Toledo Power Company, were feted  for their significant environmental protection practices and diligent compliance to environmental laws during the 3rd Environmental Congress in Cebu.

Cebu Energy Development Corporation, GBPC’s thermal power plant using the latest clean technology for coal-fired power generation, was a recipient of the major “Green Award” for its outstanding environmental performance under the power and energy category.

The Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) through its Environmental Management Bureau (EMB) and the Pollution Control Association of the Philippines (PCAPI) in Region-7 have recognized 208 companies, out of 2,000 companies in Central Visayas, for their efforts on pollution control, solid waste management, and energy/resource conservation. These 208 companies were further screened to identify the 11 recipients of the prestigious Green Award.

Furthermore, Cebu Energy and Toledo Power were given certificates of recognition for their active involvement in the Adopt-an-Estero program, for compliance with the Water Quality Standards, for acquiring the permit to operate on air quality for three consecutive years and for their effective Multipartite Monitoring Teams that ensure implementation of environmental protection measures.

“We are thankful to EMB and PCAPI for recognizing our efforts in minimizing our environmental impact while doing our power business. These recognitions will surely inspire us to be more responsible corporate citizens and environmental stewards,” said GBPC Toledo Site Vice President Engr. Leah Diaz after receiving the Green Award.

Apart from recognizing partners who have been complying with the environmental laws, the two-day Environmental Congress with theme, “Green Cooperation: Think. Operate. Save” aimed to educate various sectors on the importance of saving the environment while making businesses grow.  It was attended by representatives from the government, non-government organizations, higher education institutions, private sectors, national and local government delegates and other stakeholders in the environment.
