More youth seek jobs via TESDA job portal

Ehda Dagooc - The Freeman

CEBU, Philippines - Following the establishment of the Technical Education and Skills Development (TESDA) online job portal, the agency noted increasing number of youth seeking for jobs and training programs.

TESDA reported that web analytics for http://www.tesda.gov.ph/ showed that from January to June this year, the website has generated a total of 3,392,278 page views, including more than half a million, or 509,011 unique visitors.

On the average, each visitor to the site visits at least four pages (4.41 average pages per visit), the data added.

According to the report, visitors to the site came from 203 countries or territories, including the United States, Saudi Arabia, Canada, Singapore, Australia, Qatar, Japan, Hong Kong and United Kingdom.

"What's interesting about this data is how pervasive TESDA has become, not only among those seeking scholarships in our various offices but in the internet as well," said TESDA secretary and director general Joel Villanueva.

Villanueva said TESDA's traffic was astounding, adding that its online presence has helped people needing information on technical vocational education and training.

TESDA came online in 1998 and has since evolved and become more interesting to its online audience.

In the website, one can find useful data and information such as the latest news releases, the Director General's activities as well as the other officials, registry of certified workers, accredited assessment centers, information on scholarships and courses, current programs, invitation to bid, job market, list of officials, directory of offices and other relevant TVET information.

It also has downloadable information and files such as training regulations, competency-based learning materials, and list of registered programs.

There are also important links that can be found in the site such as the TESDA Online Program, TESDA corporate email as hosted by Google Apps, and links to other government agencies.

Among TESDA's online clients include employers, students, trainees and workers, schools and training institutions. /JOB (FREEMAN)
