MCCI Among the World’s Best

BUSINESS AFTER BUSINESS - Romelinda Garces - The Freeman

My congratulations to the Mandaue Chamber of Commerce and Industry (MCCI) for being chosen among the world’s best chambers in the recent World Chambers Competition in Doha, Qatar.

MCCI was among the five finalists who were shortlisted from 65 chambers from 42 countries who joined the competition of the 2013 World Chamber Awards.

The chamber submitted the Obra Negosyo Eskwela as its entry to the competition and gained recognition under the Best  Small Business Project category among 12 countries.

The Obra Negosyo Eskwela being a fruitful enterprise program that showcased how government, the community, the academe and private business could work together to build community enterprises that could bring the new, struggling or rehabilitated micro businesses into a viable and sustainable status.

The Obra Negosyo Eskwela which is a partnership program of MCCI with the Province of Cebu and was initiated at the time of Governor Gwendolyn Garcia.  It involved the academe as mentors for business planning and management, the local government for business identification and business processing support, and businessmen as reality business mentors.  The Obra Negosyo Eskwela reached a total of 36 micro-enterprises in the province of Cebu.

The World Chamber judges were impressed with the innovative approach of MCCI to public-private partnerships, which also involved the academe.

The World Chambers competition is the only global awards program that recognizes of  chambers of commerce and industry from around the world who have exemplary undertakings that contribute to the development of the country and can be replicated in other nations.

“With this achievement,” MCCI president, Philip Tan shared, “we have put Mandaue in the map of the world.”

Marlene Bedia, MCCI’s executive director represented the chamber in Doha for the awarding.
