CEBU, Philippines - Globe Telecom anticipates the demand for iPhone 5 in the Philippines to increase, as it has exceeded its target following the launch of the updated version of Apple’s mobile smartphone gadget in September of last year.

“Globe banked on experience and expertise that paved the way for a successful iPhone 5 launch. iPhone 5 is such a great device that deserves the best offers and superior customer experience that only Globe can provide,” said Martha Sazon, Head of Globe Postpaid.

According to a study, Apple became the top-selling smartphone device sold in the United States in the last quarter of 2012.

A consumer research based in the US, indicated that Apple’s iOS powered 51.2 percent smartphones old in the U.S, from October to December 2012, up from 44.9 percent in 2011.

“Apple’s continual improvement is thanks to both the iPhone 5 and older models attracting various customer groups, from repeat Apple buyers, first-time smartphone buyers, and those coming from other smartphone brands,” Kantar analyst Mary-Ann Parlato said.

During its launch in September 2012, the iPhone 5 broke sales records set by its predecessor the iPhone 4S, with Apple reporting sales of over 5 million in the device's first week in the market.

In the Philippines, the iPhone 5 became one of the most anticipated smartphone devices launched last year.

One of the highly-favored privileges among customers was the innovative “Reset” program, where existing Globe postpaid subscribers who are still within the contract were given the flexibility to renew or extend their account to get the iPhone 5 at a discount.

“The Reset program was a huge hit. It allowed us to delight our existing subscriber base with an irresistible deal, while our “genius” offers attracted new subscribers and switchers from competing networks to get their iPhone 5 from Globe,” added Sazon.

Other compelling offers included easy payment terms, free subscription to a mobile phone protection program and to the GCASH American Express Virtual Card, discount on accessories, and free download of Globe mobile apps.

On top of exclusive privileges, Globe subscribers on iPhone 5 postpaid plans can now enjoy Long Term Evolution (LTE) speeds on their devices by updating their iOS software to iOS 6.1 and using an LTE Nano-SIM. This will allow subscribers to experience ultrafast mobile internet speeds of up to 42 Mbps in LTE-covered areas without having to upgrade their plans or pay extra charges.

As of January 2013, the Globe LTE network, which uses a frequency of 1800 MHz perfect for the iPhone 5, has quickly expanded to cover more areas nationwide. Aside from Makati, LTE coverage is now available in select areas in Manila, Pasig City, Quezon City, Taguig City, Muntinlupa, Mandaluyong, Cebu City, and Boracay. (FREEMAN)
