More businesses to rely on IT to stay competitive

CEBU, Philippines - In the Year of the Water Snake, Intel as a company of microprocessors projected that the computing world will continue to see a lot of technology adoption moving forward with an increasing number of businesses moving to the IT space for global competitiveness.

With touch as the primary interface for the trends in 2013, Intel Microelectronics Phils., Inc. country manager Ricardo Banaag said that governments, enterprises and corporations have started to value the innovations of technology when it comes to their productivity.

He added that now that technology has become affordable, more small and medium enterprises embrace IT solutions for added business value and competitiveness.

It has been predicted that there will be over 15 billion intelligent connected devices come 2015 and will generate 35 trillion gigabytes of data by 2020.

Banaag said that mobile devices, and services in the Internet will drive a data center explosion, adding that  there are 500 million shares in Facebook, 86 000 hours of video uploaded and 100 million hours of video watched in YouTube and 230 million tweets recorded.

He cited that apart from its seamless integration and manageability, the enterprise-ready tablet in Windows 8 Pro is ideal for use in the corporate space as it could be safely connected to the corporate network given the security features.

As Asia continues to increase mobile usage, notebooks would be reinvented this year from a regular clamshell device on a touch feature with an expected increase in its performance that includes responsive voice, instant on, HD camera, always fresh data, anti-malware protection, all-day battery life, amazing visuals, convertible form factors, touch, facial recognition, sensors, and full HD display.

Banaag further noted that the convertible that gives “the best of both worlds” to the consumers has the potential to grow in the market.

Convertibles offer the convenience and practicality of a tablet’s weight and touch capabilities along with the power of a laptop.

“We believe this is the next big thing in mobile devices this year. This is also a growth area for Intel and it excites us. New experiences will be coming in the computing world,” he said.

Intel conducted a survey on Windows 8 experience in 5 cities of 4 countries which are both emerging and matured markets.

The study showed that 44 percent of the respondents preferred to use the Ultrabook convertible among other devices.

Intel further spans the mobility system in ultrabooks, convertibles, tablets and smartphones.

As a powerful, robust and easy-to-use mobile device, ultrabook has 140 designs on Intel 3rd Gen Core Processors.

Last year, Intel launched the Xeon E5 processor family that offers an eight-core option for enterprise customers for the first time and the Xeon E7 processor for a robust support for mission critical applications.

The company also launched Lava XOLO X900, the first Intel-based smartphone globally based on Intel Atom Z2460 processor in India and the 32nm Intel Atom Z2760 processor that targeted an array of Windows 8 tablets and convertibles with touch.

It was also in 2012 that the 3rd Generation Intel Core processor family was introduced to the market as the first processors built on Intel’s innovative 22nm 3-D tri-gate transistors.

“We manage to shrink it down smaller to 22 nanometers and we are continuing to do it and announce a micro-architecture every year. We also continue to power and provide technology for data centers for back-end through XEON processors,” Banaag said.

He further urged government units to make modern policies, systems, and investments in their nations to maintain and encourage development, adding that they could increase the delivery of services to the citizens through technology adoption.

With its vision to create and extend computing technologies for a connected world, Intel will launch its 4th Generation Intel Core Processor this year.  (FREEMAN)
