Home furnishing firm assembles guide on professional handymen

CEBU, Philippines - A home building and improvement company launched a community service project that will pool a list of professional handymen for the convenient reference of home owners with repair and maintenance needs.

Worldwide Home Depot, through its new initiative called “Karlo Karpintero”, aims to assemble a reliable directory of plumbers, carpenters, painters, electricians, masons and other installation professionals to help individuals who need their services but do not know whom to tap.

“As home owners, we usually have a hard time finding people who can fix a leak at home or other maintenance work. ‘Karlo Karpintero’ is an avenue that we want to create for all our skilled laborers. They just have to register at our store for free and we will be the one to connect them to home owners who need their services,” said Sharon Ann G. Ong, Marketing Director of the Worldwide Group of Companies. 

Ong said that at their Worldwide Home Depot branches, many customers inquire where they can contact workers who can install fixtures for them.

As part of their Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) program, they came up with ‘Karlo Karpintero’ to make things easier for those in need of a quick fix.

Ong added this was also their way of providing income opportunities for skilled laborers. 

Qualified workers are encouraged to visit a Worldwide Home Depot branch and fill out a form. The registrant’s background, accreditation and work reference will then be verified to ensure quality of skill and service.

The service fee will be agreed upon by the customer and the handyman.

Worldwide Home Depot’s role is to simply link home owners to the suitable handyman who can do the job in a quick, efficient, and cost-effective manner.

Customers will have a feedback mechanism on whether they are satisfied or unsatisfied with a handyman’s service through survey forms and evaluations.

Worldwide Home Depot will announce the hotline to contact once they complete their directory. 

An affiliate of the Worldwide Steel Group of Companies which manufactures and distributes construction materials in Cebu, Worldwide Home Depot was established in 2001 to cater to the growing needs for local and imported tiles, bathroom fixtures, finishing and furnishing materials.

It currently has four branches at N. Bacalso Ave., Cebu City, Carcar City as well as Worldwide Tile Depot along A.S. Fortuna St., Mandaue City and in Sacris Road, Mandaue City. 

Ong said there are plans of opening a fifth Worldwide Home Depot branch in Mandaue City.  (FREEMAN)
